Hi i have a 2001 220 cdi w203,
this morning i had a strange noise under the bonnet,i think it was from the
power steering as it got louder,if i applied full lock.
it was a sort of rumbling sound,
any thing i can look at.
how do i check the power steering level.
ps
i am not getting any fault codes.

open power steering bottle / reservoir.

clean dipstick with lint free cloth (or mcdonalds tissue.... ;) )

replace cap

remove cap, inspect level

refill as required. use std ATF.

the reservoir is located (usually) at the front nearside of the engine, black cap about 2" diameter

Thanks.
i did find it,had to remove plastic engine covers to even see it,
needs some fluid, are the spares department at the deales open on sundays

As Guy said, PAS systems normally use ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid). There is no need to buy this from your dealership, any local motor factors or Halfords type place should suffice.

If you get really stuck, a local petrol garage would sell it, but they would charge you a highly inflated price for the privilage!

Check in the handbook that came with your car to be 110% certain of what you are buying. :)

HTH,

Cheers,

Will

hats more concerning is that a 203 needs PS fluid already - mine i can accept - its done 160,000 miles...

is it still under warrenty? theres a leak somwhere..
