S500L (W220) PREV- S600L (W140),3x E320, E280, E240, S500, 450SLC, E300D Wagon
Is it just me or have prices of the W210 shot up in recent months?

Last year in April (I think) I bought a lovely E320 Avantgarde in Violaine with Grey Leather with a multiude of nice options (apart from a CD and climate) full a decent SH and in good condition done 66,000 miles. I paid £2,200.

Now the same car seems to be almost double!! What's going on?

I'm looking for another car cheaper to run in addition to my 600, not many people downsize to a 3.2 V6 to save money...

Does anyone have any ideas of a car I could get to go to work and back in for about £2k?

My red one might be for sale soon :)

Everything under £5k seems to have shot up; I can only assume it is a side effect of the scrappage scheme - ie there is now a shortage of good used cars at the lower end?

Yes this does seem the case. Which is annoying, I'm kind of thinking about selling the 600 and buying a W211 now as fueling the 600 with the kind of miles I'm doing is mental. I've done over 12,000 miles in it since September 14th. I dread to think how many liters I've fed it.

Nah,my W210 elegance estate cost £370 :D

Yes but a lot of that was abroad ;)

My Mrs wants to sell her 2002 52 plate Vauxhall Zafira whne the new 500 eventually arrives, looking at glasses its only worth £2200 in average condition with 55k miles. Personally I wouldnt....

Surely when you discount the extra tax, insurance, depreciation, servicing costs of an additional vehicle into your S classes MPG, its better all round to travel in style!

Where fuel was more expensive! I have quite a number of bills from petrol stations where I have spent upwards of £120 on each visit! :(

*laughing* When we took the CL over to Germany, my friend was almost pale with the amount of fuel we consumed.

I gently explained that a 5 litre V8, pushing over 2000kg through the air at cruising speeds of 180-190kph and regularly to 240kph and above would see the go-go juice be consumed at an increased rate......

as we signed for another 100+ Euro fuel bill

Happy days

Being new to this forum ( nice BTW ), as much as I kinda like my new ( old ) car, it still is a big old 3.2 oil burner, which people cant belive the cost of taxing it ( not could I ! ).

I think it's best to assume a few nice examples are coming on to the market, than a renaissance in W210s, as in all honesty, after looking at mine now, it's still a tin worm magnet & will take some work to sort....

I dont think no matter how well you look after it, it'll still rot, unless you lived in sunny spain ! ( if only ! ) :D

Seems to be the same with all second hand cars at the moment not sure about the scrappage bit as i assume most cars being scrapped are small poopers and not many big cars?

Been looking at disco prices and they are truly stupid.

Lynall I think the point with the scrappage scheme is that it is taking the BETTER old cars out of the system - be it small or large. The owners have to be able to afford to buy a new car and have had their current car for 12 months - these two things taken together = well maintained older car. Of course the cars they are buying are typically smaller Korean f*rt boxes - and thats because a fixed £2k "discount" is a bigger incentive on an £8k purchase than on a £35k purchase.
The sooner they stop the stupid scheme the better; I can not see what long term benefit the UK PLC gets out of it - other than a small reduction in CO emissions - probably completely offset by a factory in Korea making more and more tin boxes.

My colleague took in a a 51 plate Discovery TD5 Auto a few weeks ago which booked in Glass' for about the late £5k mark and we kind of figured that it would make £5k in the trade somewhere, amazingly we got bid £6,500 by a 4x4 specialist!! For some reason they are making really strong money. The market really is quite odd at the moment, some cars are really in demand and others are just not selling at all.

I think decent diesel discoverys will always be strong in the winter - as people mistakenly think that they will be invincible on any road surface no matter what tyres or level of skill they have. :)
By contrast convertible prices seem to be pretty depressed at the mo; hardly a surprise - what surprises me most is the high prices being paid for older cars from mid 90s. Maybe people are working out that, whilst there is maintenance to do of course, there are less "horrific" bills running into four figures - which is exactly what people dont want when money is tight.

Even the v8 ones are nearly as much money as the diesel ones:eek:.
