Hi all,
One of my family member is looking for lease a car for a few years. Has anyone done this?
Does anyone know any good online companies so I can get an idea of pricing etc for them? It’s not for business purely on a personal basis. Any idea would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

That has to be one of the worst designed serious web sites i've seen in
years!

Actually I disagree. I use this site as a counter example to the bland 'pretty' sites that many companies use. Designers generally hate it. That's not the point.

- the information it's conveying is right in your face

- there's minimal navigation required.

- it has its own character

I would assume that if it was unsuccessful that it would have been changed.

There are quite a few car manufacturers and car dealers who could learn from it.

I agree, the website fits in with the character of the businesswoman who runs it. She is very successful, therefore the website must appeal to her customers. I actually think it contains useful information and the 'live chat' feature works well too.

Certainly right in your face. Flashing boxes really help that:eek:

Sorry, its horrible. All the info you need his hidden in masses of irellevant dross. The colours are garish, too many fonts, too much winding up and down one extremely long page to find something isn't there.

If i'm interested in a car, how does a picture of a packet of fags help?

And no, I'm not a web designer. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder:)

Well compare with the other end of the market and the half-heartedness of the MB UK/deal web site offerings. They've been homogenising the search engine for used cars and the tabbed offer pages manage to hide/confuse new offers.

I'm not a web designer either but I have had to argue in meetings with people who want a 'beautiful' website to point out that style is subjective and that there is garnish clutter (how long and how many clicks to get get to something) as well as content clutter (how much information do I have to scan).

The lingcars site has content clutter but will put a list of cars and prices right up there fast. There are limited navigational choices. You can get a fast list of of just automatic cars with one drop down. There is deliberate (if rather corny) brand characterisation. There is frequent change. It's intended to work as an offers sheet that people look at regularly and frequently.

Now compare that with the MB dealer sites and searching for a used car. I don't regularly peruse my local dealer's stock any more -- because it takes way too long to get the information I want. I doubt I would have spotted my current car in the current setup.

There are some dreadful car manufacturers websites out there, Volkswagen springs to mind. I think they underestimate the frustration it causes to potential customers. Some are just too plain complicated for their own good.

I quite like this contract hire idea - is the insurance inclusive of the cost?

Insurance is not usually included. Sometimes it is available through the company as an optional extra, along with other things like maintenance etc. I've leased a couple of cars in the past and found it to be a pretty satisfactory experience. The Bank of Scotland Freeway site gives indicative prices for nearly every new car and options spec extras.

You can get maintanance included, whether its worth it is usually down to how many miles you do and the contract term. If you go for a 2 year lease @10K Miles a year its not normally worth getting maintanance included.

I've leased several cars now and I'm very happy with it. I certainly wouldn't buy a brand new car myself now. My current car is with:

Freedom are also good for looking at current deals.

If it is private you cannot claim the VAT back. A lot of the deals around are really for business only.

For private use, if you want several years, I think the PCP leases with option to purchase after say three years make good sense and these are available at pretty good rates from Merc dealers. You get a guaranteed residual after 3 years and can then either give the car back and pay nothing, or buy it at the residual figure or refinance and carry on for some more years.
