Hi,

I'm also looking for reviews of this - it's coming in about 1/4 of the cost of a tuningbox (www.tuningbox.com) with comparable quoted figures.

Anyone?

Cheers,
Eddie

I brough two years ago, all it did was raise the fuel rail pressure, it does give more power but it makes your mpg reading higher and in real life doesnt improve mpg, you will get lot more power with a good remap imo

Ageed
Had my C200 re-mapped
Now drives so much better and feels like a different car.:bannana:
No obvious changes to anyone poking about either;)

Thats until they test drive it:D

My last car i had tuned was a tuning box Dastek, pretty good but kept putting engine check light on, so had a remap done by td5alive and was pretty good.

Very high egts though as pointed out by dieselman a year or so ago, so also potential for disaster:eek:.

Ignore the economy bit as no matter what the tuner says you wont drive it like a nun:D

Just had mine remapped and I can honestly say that it feels like a different car . Acceleration on the motorway is better and holds a higher gear. Also taking my son to football this morning and got to a roundabout with car infront, that started to go round and I worked out that I had enough room to go, with another car coming round. Put my foot down and the car literally launched itself :bannana: but then I had to put the brakes on because the first car was on a go slow :(

Will know how the MPG improves (or not) in the morning, on my way to Sheffield for 7am.

I too have been through the box/remap saga and would always go for a remap now.

so what is the difference between a re map and a Brabus Chip?
What are the potential pifalls of both if any?

Brabus chip costs a lot lot more, but i suppose also has good resale value when sold either with car or seperately.

The Brabus chip is also compatible with the MB new car warranty - fitment does cap warranty cover to 60,000 miles instead of unlimited mileage though. They also recommend that it's only fitted to cars with less than 20,000 miles (at time of fitting).

Of course being Brabus you can be relatively confident as it's an MB product rather than a third party.

It may also be worth considering Kleemann - they also use a piggy back chip/box in the same way as Brabus and they're also a reputable MB specialist tuner - but they're boxes have been £399 this year (may still be the case).

Asked at Grangemouth MB dealer who told me that brabus chip does not affect warranty if fitted by MB dealer as it will be registered at MB HQ.

If true (I'm not doubting that it is true) then that must be a recent change, so it may be worth double-checking the small print if you get one.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I didn't want to start a new one either. I've done a search and tried to find the info, there is plenty on tuning boxes, but I'm wondering what results people have had specifically in terms of fuel economy?

I've checked out the pro bitz link at the top but I'm a little dubious as that seems like a one size fits all solution. I'm not really interested in increasing power output, what I have as standard is quite enough thank you, but it would be nice to get a little closer to MB's claims in terms of MPG.

If anyone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it :thumb:

I fitted a tuning box from DTE Systems to my Smart CDi and it made a big difference to the car - much more grunt. Not a lot of difference to the mpg and I did a lot of miles over the same roads so feel fairly confident I can say that.
The box was switched to my Toyota iQ D4-D when I bought that at Xmas last year and it likewise, made a very noticeable difference to the acceleration mid-range and driveability however, as this car has a particulate filter, I noticed the car regenerating a lot more - raised idle speed and I could hear and unusual exhaust note when in the garage. The fuel consumption again appears little affected, up or down.
I removed the box recently and haven't noticed the car regenerating the filter since. I can only presume the box produced more particulates that get caught in the filter which the car struggles to clear.
I would suggest if you have a particulate filter fitted, perhaps don't try to get the max out of the engine - it might mean you have to replace the filter (or knock out the ceramic of course and keep going)!

I've heard mixed reviews about the DTE systems, I know that's what DTUK sell in the UK.
I had a look at their terms and conditions and they charge a £40 plus VAT restocking fee if you return for any reason and they only have a 14 day money back guarantee. I like the look of their green box, though I can''t see it avaliable on there: DTUK

The other ones I looked at were the Bluespark units: Diesel economy tuning box and the Bluespark Pro tuning box they have a 28 day money back guarantee with no restocking fee, and their units seem to be pretty good value in comparison. I had a quick Google of them and found loads of stuff on the Jaguar forum, but not much for Mercedes?

I saw Power Tune had an economy tuning option too.

Ill have a think about it this weekend but meanwhile if anyone has used any of the above or any others please do tell. :)
