Encountering difficulties with Comand system on S320 - never seems to know were I am, it seems as if no GPS signal is being recived at all ?
I have to manual enter the location all the time, I only got the car yesterday so sorry if this is a stupid question.

Does anyone have any pointers ?

First have a look at the menu showing how many satellites the Comand is seeing. If it is zero, you most likely have a broken GPS antenna.

Thanks Disel Benz, stupid question time how ?
I cant find any reference to GPS in the settings other than for date & time and that dosent work either !

Switch to the current position screen (no navigation active, under info). That will show the number of satellites.

Sorry More Questions

Thanks for the information. - So i switched to current position map and it shows in the top right corner 00 sat ?

Does this mean I need a new GPS antenna ?

Couldnt switch to the info page to check for active satelites ?
Just for clarity this is a command 2.5 system.

thanks - any help is really appreciated!

Well, there is your problem: it can't see any satellites. Could be the satnav aerial that is knackered, but might be worth checking for more obvious causes, such as a cable come loose.

That's right, the 2.5 COMAND shows the number of satellites on the current position map.

I had this problem with a customer of mine... it turned out that someone had stolen the aerial off the back screen!!

Thanks Guys, I suspected that was going to be the answer!
The airel seems to still be there in body at least, ill check the connection.

Go into diagnostic mode (select TV, then hold down MUTE 1 3 buttons for a few seconds), and go find the list of error codes, and post them (along with all the info about count and type & state). If TV doesnt do it, go into TAPE mode

That will possibly tell us whether it is seing the GPS antenna at all

It could be antenna, cable, or the GPS receiver in the COMAND (which I have seen fail) causing 0 satellites

If you look here it shows you some info

Theres a link in there to the error code list that is broken !, so here is the correct link: -

Error Codes

Ok - fault codes displayed

SAE Code TYPE CNT STATE
B1738 0x0004 116 P
B1736 0x0001 001 P
B1769 0X0010 138 A

which if im reading the fault codes correctly translate as B1738/4 Navigation Fault GPS aerial open circuit ?
B1769/010 Fault in communication with CTEL or Teleaid
B1736/1 General CD read error, navigation CD unreadable (changed to updated disk today, now ok)

Can anyone advise ?

Yes you are reading them right

Its a completely broken antenna (I think unlikely)
A broken or disconnected cable (most likely)
A faulty GPS board in the unit (less likely)

I'd start with the cable up at the antenna and put a voltmeter on it, there should be a few volts. If that has a few volts, change antenna, otherwise check cable at head unit. and then check for voltage on output from COMAND

final chapter

Problem resolved, turned out to be a loose connection back of head unit!:bannana:

I'm having a problem with my Command 2.0 W210 from year 2000.

It can't see any satellites. After some reading here i pulled out the Command unit and found out that the aerial cable has came disconnected.

fault codes displayed
SAE Code TYPE CNT STATE
B1738 0x0002 065 P

which if im reading the fault codes correctly translate as B1738/2 : Navigation Fault GPS aerial short to positive

I connected the aerial cable into the head unit, and let it be turned on for at least 20 min. but still no sattelites can be found. When i drive the fault codes state shift to STATE A Which i think means fault is active.

Can any one help me what to do next?

Regards
Rune

I have just bought a 2002 w220 s600 with the same problem (00 satellites) and positioned in the Atlantic Ocean, North of Scotland. So I will check the faults and the cable connections first.
