Okie dokie guys and gals!

As some of you know I bought Kikthekats E320 Coupe a couple of weeks back.

Well, she is beautiful but needs some minor cosmetic work.

I have decided to keep her for some years and want to get her back to A1 Mint condition (as much as possible)

Here how she looked when Ray bought her:

http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=36374&highlight=worth+wages

Externally:

Generally the paint is good but there are some little car park battle scars, scuffs and tiny dings/creases as well as rust sopts apprearing on the front wings and around the rear infra-red sensor below the bootlid.

Also, the passenger electric mirror is a bit sticky.

I'm not going to put any body kits on her.

I'm not putting on BarryBoy wheels. I AM looking for a nice set of AMG style II's however in 16/17inch, Ian advises 16 inch (maybe with wide tyres at the back (225-235 possible?)).

Might even keep the original wheels and ge them refurbed.

Internally she needs the following done to her:

New plastic triangle bit to the seat belt extender (not the actual extender but the plastic bit stuck to the leather).

Dash lights and connections to be checked (basically changing all internal bulbs.

Full deep clean of leather and trim.

New rubber mats (I work in the Construction Industry and always have rubber overmats just in case i pick up dirt from the Site Car Parks).

Parrot CK3200 bluetooth car kit to be re-installed.

New Alarm to be fitted with full closure and paging facility (and possibly with Remote Start - anyone got experience of this?)

SO Here we go!

I've ordered new wings and other bits and pieces and she goes in for a respray on Monday.

I will have her back a week later and I have been advised that all the little dings, rust spots, dents, scuffs and swirls will be gone!

wooooooooooohooooooooooooooo!

She is a truly beautiful car and after spending a grand on bodywork she will look like a million dollars!

She should hopefully last another 165000 miles after the cosmetic work is completed.

I've asked the bodyshop to advise on anything that needs to be done so I can get it done in one go and have the bodywork last at least another 4 years!

I'm keeping the colour that it left the factory as, Tourmaline Green.

I will post some before and after pics.

Btw, the 300 E-24 is going in to the 'shop a week later and is getting the full facelift treatment!

New Facelift bonnet, lenses, bootlid on the way as well as the same treatment the E320 is getting paintwise.

A question though, since the 300 E-24 is black should I put the badge back on or leave only the star on the bootlid?

I don't want people to think that I have stuck a "300 E-24" badge on an Facelift E200 or something like that.

What do you all think?

Pictures coming soon!

Regards,

KJ

Glad to hear you are keeping the C124 standard, they are so nice stock imho.. I'd keep the OE wheels, they suit the car - its not a sports car afterall.

I'm hoping to get 17 years of scrapes, dings and chips removed from mine this spring and finally sort the stereo..

Look forward to seeing the pics.

Sounds like a plan ...

What are they charging you for 2 new wings sprayed and fitted ? If you don't mind me asking ....

In total for the new painted wings, dings, and other things it's costing about £600 cash money ;)

I think he said £150 to respray the bonnet on its own, possibly about 150 for the two wings painted Howard.

I'll ask him the breakdown when I see him next.

I can't wait to get it back looking sweet.

I can't believe I wasted so much money on these new benzes!

I love the feel of both the 24 valvers!

The 300 E screams at you (in a nice way) and the E320 just effortlessly pulls away in a brisk, gentlemanly fashion.:)

Did Ian get the wings ?

Is it £150 to spray the wings ? surely not to supply them as well ?

No, I got new wings from Dronsfields for £35 + vat each.

I don't know how much exactly to do the wings but will ask him when I see him next week.

p.s. I still like your wheels! ;) ;) They would look perfect on the 300!

How much did they cost you in total to get painted?

Can a normal bodyshop do them?

Did mine myself ...

If you want the painted centres , yes , a bodyshop should be able to do them ....

If you're spending a bit of cash , might be worth getting them powder coated professionally ...

I have a near bodyshop finish on mine , but that was because i literally spent hours on them..... a whole weekend a wheel pretty much ....

Right!

Got the car back today part completed (because I need it this week) - theyve had it for 3 weeks already.

They've put the star back on the bootlid but not the "E320" bit and I kind of like it without any fussyness.

They have taped over the hole for the bonnet star with painted tape for the time being and i have got to say I actually quite like that also.

I am thinking about putting a flat bonnet badge and keeping the slatted grille.

I don't fancy a big star on the front.

WHat do you all think? :

No model designation on the bootlid and a flat badge on the bonnet with the grille as per my photos here:
http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/kbhogalw126/ProjectE320CoupeBefore/photo#5178423256144910354

Does anyone have the part number or a badge spare they could sell.

The car goes back in on monday for a couple of days to finish it off so I have a short time to get a badge.

What do you all think?

All comments appreciated.

tia,

KJ

I'd leave the bonnet star on (a merc needs a bonnet star), and keep the rear de-badged, just the boot star. No big stars anywhere.

Yep, keep the bonnet star :)

Another vote for the bonnet star.
