Hi All,

Since June having purchased a BMW 330d Manual E90 .. I just couldn't get on with the manual thing. I also missed having a bigger car like my previous CLS so for a change never having owned a S I picked up a late 55 reg good spec heated rear seats, blind, bose.. soft close boot good spec for a diesel.

The issue I have is the car was on a private plate the owner removed in the DVLA'S wisdom they allocated a 02 registration to the car ( I bought the car from a trader ) the car has been on a private plate most of its life so the original I can only surmise is on rentention?

I have written a brief letter to the DVLA requesting they issue a 55 registration for a car registered 1/9/2005.

I know it' fairly trivial but I don't want to age the car or use my plate on retention.

Has anyone come across this sort of thing before? Its 1/9/2005 on the log book the later OM648 engine and the facelift model so definitely not a 02 car. Any help solving this would be appreciated.

It' good to be back in a Mercedes.. far from the quickest car I have had of late it' just so comfortable and nothing is stressful when driving it!

Thanks

Michael

Seems odd. Even if the original 55 plate was "special" and someone did retain it, there must be unused 55 numbers they could have issued in its place. Let us know how you get on.

Cheers,

Gaz

Sounds more likely that the older plate has been out on it by the owner.

I've never heard of the DVLA doing this before.

The DVLA do make mistakes occasionally. A friend imported a 1963 car, with proof of age, and the DVLA gave him A123ABC instead of ABC123A. (OK, not really those combinations - clearly the DVLA would sell those!)

Thanks for all the replies I really can't work out why they would apply this 02 plate on the vehicle although that plate had been put on the vehicle in 2011 and taken off 2014. The previous owners private plate came off last week then the DVLA put the car back on the 2011 02 plate .The car was originally registered as WK55UGT. I can't see it being a desrible plate hence my confusion. I have searched the internet and can't find any similar issues with plates.

So as I understand it

Car first registered WK55UGT.
This was then replaced with an 02 "cherished" plate.
Later this was replaced by another cherished plate.
This one was removed by the seller and the DVLA reverted to the other cherished plate above.

That's correct. A little strange?

A little, in theory you should be able to put the existing number on retention and it should then revert to the original number.

You can of course try and get DVLA to do this for free, assuming you have no end of time and are prepared for the long battle ahead. ;)

Just as well I have left the car with the trader with holding half the money.. should motivate him to get it changed. All the same I was just interested how this came about.
