...well having just purchased my 1995 sl320 with some tired 16inch 8 hole alloys I looked around and found a company called PX Wheels who swap your wheels for a refurbished set for £285...spoke with the chap and it all sounded good...until they arrived today at the garage to be fitted.

Took them out of the boxes and the powder coat finish was heavy and full of dirt marks but worse than that stamped on the inside of the back of the wheels was...
MADE IN THAILAND ! And no three pointed star...
Is it possible they could be genuine? I have arranged for them to be returned however I would be interested in members views...
So now seeking some mint 8 holes ...

Their website states "Like for Like" exchange which is a bit vague, but I would certainly think that trading standards would be interested in the case.

Genuine wheels will have a part number on them. "Made in Thailand" not MB.

Get your originals refurbed.

...I am going to...however it is bloody disappointing when you get poor, deceitful service such as this...I was looking forward to some shiny new wheels!

I always assumed this sort of thing would sometimes happen with anywhere that offers an exchange service for refurbished wheels? That's how the exchange thing works, take used stuff in part exchange for other used stuff that's been reconditioned* to look new... you give them your manky wheels (that you know haven't been kerbed to death, welded back together etc) + some £££ and they give you a freshly refurbed set of wheels that look the same but could have been repaired multiple times, been kerbed to death by a previous owner, may or may not be genuine and so on.

* With used machinery, engine parts or complete engines that can mean anything from jet washed and painted/cleaned to properly rebuilt. Need to read the small print to find out which. With alloy wheels it covers repainting wheels that have never touched a kerb in their life to making buckled/kerbed/cracked wheels usable and shiny again

Their terms and condition state "All wheels sold by pxwheels.com are guaranteed to be genuine original equipment unless otherwise stated." So just quote that when returning them.

...I did and their response was " they must have slipped through the net?"...

Yeah, okay !
