Question regarding service B1 - Dealership or Independent

Hello all,

My service B1 is due on my A180, it will be my first paid service after 3 years full service (car registration 2014). I am being quoted £600 via the online Mercedes-Benz Online Service Booking Application website which in my opinion is ridiculous

This includes additional items such as replacing brake fluid, air filter and fuel filter. If I untick this it tells me that I would be going against the manufacturers recommended service.

I am seriously considering going to a local independent but a little unsure on whether that is the best route, does anyone have any recommendations around the Rugby/Coventry area. Also willing to travel to Birmingham.

Seen a few decent reviews for MSL service centre and Haden Birmingham. These are offering a service B for around £250-£300 which is way less expensive and they say they use the latest Mercedes technology.

If I go to an independent will they always stamp the service book or is it done online like the dealership? Any major issues around going independent, price wise it appears like the best route.

I would greatly appreciate your advice, currently booked in for Saturday for my service with Mercedes at the dealership but can cancel and go independent.

Mercland in Nuneaton is highly recommended by forum members.
I will be going there when my present sevice arrangements finish

To buy the air filter , fuel filter , cabin filter , oil filter and oil i don`t think it would be much more than £100 (trade) , so to charge £250 per hour to fit them and carry out a few checks is a bit of a pi$$ take even by dealers standards.

Plus there is no guarantee that the parts are actually getting changed unless you watch them doing it.

Get a price from a couple of independents whose reputation depends on doing the work properly.

Go to MSL. Acid knows these cars so well.
Even with all the extras needed it won't be £600.

Does the £250 -£300 you mention include the extras to do a full comparison. It doesn't seem enough to me if it does. My local independent quoted me £300 for a basic B service.

I use acms Walsall, highly recommended.
