Not sure where you are in Essex buddy , but Alex Crow in Stowmarket , Suffolk is an excellent MB Specialist .
Just spoke to Alex and I’ve booked my car with them. Although it’s 75 miles one way, his reviews are very good so I’m just going to do an A service for £176.

He told me I don’t need to change the fuel filter as it was changed at 125k and they are usually changed every 50k. They have something to check whether I need to change brake fluid, but the fluid hasn’t been changed for 4 years.

He will also have a look at the gearbox oil to see whether that requires changing. ATF service costs £276.

I’ve noticed the car doesn’t go into gear 7 and stays mostly in 6. Not sure why that is as I only drive in ECO. Car also struggles to hit 100mph. This was experimented on the motorway. Most times I only do upto 65mph.

I don’t have an issue travelling providing they look after the car.

I’ve realised from past experiences to never look for the cheapest option as you’ll end up spending more money in the long run.

Thank you for your recommendation 🙏

Alex is an excellent chap , you won’t be disappointed. I travel over an hour for car work I can’t do at home .
Let us know how you get on .

Time-wise, the fuel filter and air filter are due every 4 years, the brake fluid is due every 2 years, and the ATF and filter every 5 years. The cabin/pollen/dust filter is due every 2 years, but the cost of replacing it is actually included in the cost of the Service Schedule B (BTW, the cabin filter is the only service item that is actually included in the cost of a service, except for obviously the engine oil and filter).

If I were in your place, I'd replace everything in the list above, so the the car had a clean baseline for future servicing.

Incidentally, does the indie have access to the MB DSB?

That was the original plan but I was getting quotes of between £900-£1198

Mercedes quoted £868

Although I was quoted £176 for the oil service, it appears I’m going to be spending a lot more.

Yes, he said the service will be recorded into the Mercedes digital service record.

That's nearly as much as my 3 year service plan with 3 mots . For a 9 speed 3 litre V6.

Well, I suppose that this is what the previous owner thought - that replacing every service item when it's due is bl00dy expensive :D

I think that servicing a car according to the manufacture's service schedule is a good idea, in general.

And if you intend to keep the car, then it is crucial that you find someone who can look after serving and repairs at an affordable price for the longer term.

Otherwise, the car will eventually start to deteriorate, which is not good.

I agree, it’s best to look after the car but majority of owners just rip them and sell them for the next owner to take on the burden.

I’m hoping to keep until 2026. I bought the car in September 2023. It’s a nice car but sometimes I ask myself do I really need a diesel estate when am a Lone Ranger.

The problem with my car is the depreciation is high due to mileage and age.

It’s shocking 😢 I wasn’t expecting the service to cost this much otherwise I would have got a Ford Focus
Have you looked on the mb service website , put your reg and mileage in and the electronic service sheet will tell you what's required at the present time . No one service , will require the work youve been quoted , not even an A7 .

The OP has been given this advice along with much more. 👍

I haven’t been able to get anything when I go to their website as it’s only showing a clear screen with the Mercedes’ sign.

Mercedes told me I require the following:

A service
Brake fluid
Fuel filter change
Air filter
Dust filter
