honestly w124.. they are incredible cars.. but i like my sciences..

Logic being.

In a crash, most cars ABSORB the impact and minimal amounts are passed onto the occupants.

In a smart car.. there is no absorbtion, just the safety cell remains intact, but the jolt to the human body which can be effected just by falling off a chair would have deadly consequences in a car lacking no crash zones..

Its safe that it will keep your body intact, but in my opinion, and only mine, u will prob get seriusly hurt just from the sudden jolt or u will die!

so i think it is more true than not in certain suburban situations..

urban, u never get fast enough to worry, but out on open roads, dual carriage ways, motorways and even A roads.. the consequences can be more severe than i care to think about

im not worried about the door opening after a 70mph crash..

listen to their very last words..

its unlikely the body organs would have survived with such transfer of energy and its unlikely the passengers in these cars would have survived..

though as expected, in a c, e or s class, passengers would walk away in my opinion.. as the imapct was not that great as it appears.. head on, different story in all cars, but this example shows why my previous point was quite valid..

deceleration of the body is unhealthy, crumple zones absorb much impact.. smart has minimal crumple zones, thus safe, but not as safe as a car with longer bonnet.

Any modern car would have a similar damage after hiting that concrete.I`m not including the S class.

disagree w124..

reason is that if it was a head on, i agree with your point, but on the angle, the car would have deflected in a similar way, hence the first vid was not a very good indication as much energy was transfered to propelling the car side ways, thus the integrity of the car wasnt really tested..

What did you expected?I`ve never said is the safest car,but not as that idiot says.Maybe he like to try that on his wifes X5 to see what happens

I agree.. the dead bit was OTT.. but part of the humour in his appraisal along with the weather and the SLR and the theft and the Zimmer dealer.. and the respect thing.

sure u aint gonna be dead, but u could be as close to a dead man walking in a smart.. who knows..

i think we have all taken the topic a bit too seriously..

the meer point of the thread was to have a chuckle at this guys analysis of certain topics, relating to a cars cost, the smart cars name, the bad zimmer dealer and ofcourse the praise for the w124 ;)

No mate,just having a chat.

bit of banter eh..

so what do u think of the w124 safety cell.. ofcourse u have not had a chance to test it.. nor hav i lol..

but these cars just feel so damn robust!

if he struggles to pay the mortgage why doesn't he sell the BMW? get the wife something smaller and more economical, like a merc :)

The test of fifth gear says it all :)
