R129 500sl roof problem help! Help!

Help everyone, I have a 1992 500SL that has been very well maintained all its life, last year it developed a fault on the roof operation, basically intermittent operation all together. Hill Farm Garage near Winchester fitted a new hood controller and it was perfect until i dug it out of hibernation after winter. The battery was flat so i charged it up and then no hood operation again. The switch illuminates on pressing and i've tried re-setting windows etc. It has also just come back from 6 WEEKS! at Hill Farm Garage! where all they could establish was the controller is fine but still no worky!! It seems nobody knows about these things anymore.. So can anyone help or can anyone recommend a specialist that can really fix these things.. Thank you all so much forum. Simon

Okay, so i have tried to re-set everything and if i manually lower the roof and lock it away it will then raise correctly with the switch, however once locked in the up position it will not lower... eek.. anyone anyone? Bueller... theres money in it for someone

With a later car you'd want to put it on STAR to look for fault codes. I think there is a similar (but less comprehensive) diagnostic interface for your '92 ... has this been checked?

Some years back I had low voltage related issues with mine that disabled the hood until the fault codes (which were spurious ones relating to window sensors) were cleared. I bought a maintenance charger after that!

Maintenance charger is a must. Read/erase the codes, with this car you can do it with a blink code reader if you don't have access to star.

WTF were they doing with it for 6 weeks?

I've checked and there are no codes stored. Yes 6 weeks and no further forward! So i urge everyone to reconsider using this garage.

take fuse out and disconnect battery and put back after few minutes sometimes it reset and works hard or soft

Battery has been off dozens of times, obviously nobody here really knows any more than me.. darn!!
