It has probably failed due to the ball/swivel joint seizing up. In theory these are replaceable just like ball joints on a track rod end. You will see the parts listed on that parts diagram I linked to in post #17 ----- doubt if you can still get them but worth asking? They are parts from a 190 originally so if you can determine the thread size you might find another small swivel/ ball joint end that would fit? Best to take the entire rod assembly off to do this. but make sure to note the exact rod length before dismantling all the bits on the bench. On the other hand you could just spend £211-68 :dk:

Thanks all, yes you can buy the ball joint on it's own, a very helpful chap at the local main dealer helped me identify this yesterday, the cost is only £15 which will have to be my first port of call as I am still only receiving JSA. Unfortunately the car will have to go anyway but it will be far easier to advertise and sell with these little things sorted - plus £15 is a lot less than the £200 + VAT + fitting I was quoted by the MOT station

If you have time on your hands then tidying up the car will certainly help sell it. An simple but easily rectified fault on the ADS system is best repaired since it could easily put a prospective buyer off . With some ADS faults being quite expensive to repair that buyer suspicion could be a deal breaker?

Very true, as soon as prospective buyers find out about my financialm situation I just get silly offers, I have ordered the part now and the tyre, it now only needs the throttle potentiometer for a clean MOT - my poor old Dad's pension money is suffering but it will enable me to get at least a reasonable price for the car now.

Does anyone have any advise on the fitting of a throttle body for my '92 SL500 please?

thanks

Cheers Grober, does anyone know of a reliable refurbisher based in the UK?
