Hi, anyone know the oil capacity of a R129 diff?
can't seem to find it anywhere.

cheers
Chris

Depends on which model diff it has but between 1.1 and 1.25 litres. Fill until the oil comes out of the level plug with the car level.

For chassis 129.060, the MB Technical data passenger cars (October 1993) gives 1.1L for the "rear axle centre assembly". Different hypoid transmission oil for standard (235) and LSD (235.3), both SAE 90.

thanks - is there anyway of knowing if it has limited slip diff?
does it say as an option on the russian site?

If you can't ascertain it from the VIN then jack a wheel up and run the car in drive.
If it has an LSD it will try to drive off the jack, if not just one wheel will spin.

That sounds a bit dangerous - I'll get the wife to try it later LOL
was it an option on all models & do you know the code if it was?

thanks Roger that's great I've been looking for those!
Looks like I haven't got a LSD then, so if it's still whining after I've changed the oil I'll stick some addative in.

cheers
Chris
