Hi all

My neighbour has just bought herself a nice r129 SL500.

She wants a hardtop stand , can anyone recommend one please ?

Thanks

H

Just a bit of general advice ... they fall into two camps, fixed and foldable. The fixed ones are a fair old size, so need to bear that in mind depending on where it's going to be kept when not in use. I was given mine FOC by a dealership (when they gave up storing R129 hardtops for customers over the summer), so no idea what brand it is! But it's pretty substantial and solid (not a folding one).

As an alternative you can get padded hardtop bags that hang onto wall hooks (e.g. in the garage). I actually use one of those for protection, when the top is on the stand.

This one looks quite good. I have a Wiesmann folding stand, which fits into the boot with obvious benefits, and is an oem part.

I have the folding stand and it is remarkably sturdy. It takes the heavy panny roof no bother. As Bill says the padded bags are good too. She might prefer a hoist if she has a Garage with decent headroom, they can come with electric motors so she could do it herself if needs be.

I made my own by sawing two legs off an old table I had lurking about. I turned the now two legged table upside down and added some trolly wheels - works great. Very stable and will never rust.

I blew the £100 savings on beer. :D
