Sorry another numpty question :o. Looking to buy an SLK R172

How do you get to the battery on the R172. If I keep the car in the garage I'd like to keep it on a trickle charger so as a temporary measure I need to remove the cover and connect up crocodile clips to the battery terminal.

Is the battery on the top left or top right of the picture?
Is it easy to unclip and clip back the cover?

Just to clarify, I've done some internet search but images I've found are for left hand drive cars showing the water drainage tray on the top left (it's on the top right for right hand drive car in the picture). I appreciate the red cover on the left of the picture is for jump start which would suggest the battery is on the left but the drainage tray is on the right :dk:

The red rectangular plate on the left hand side of the photo slides and provides access to a positive terminal for charging. There is also a brass earth terminal nearby on the wing. It's easier to use these than to connect directly to the battery.

Many thanks for the two posts. Is there any electrical disadvantages to using the red rectangular plate - I thought it was only meant to be used for jump starting?

None. I use those points and give mine a top up charge every week.
