R230 Passenger's foot well courtesy light

Hi folks, had my SL for a couple of weeks now and am over the moon with it. However, the courtesy light does not work on the passenger's side footwell (I've tried new bulbs and the drivers side works fine). Has anyone else encountered this issue and found an easy fix? I'm reluctant to start pulling off lots of interior trim as the rest of the car is near perfect but would like to solve this as its niggling me.

Do they operate independently or together. i.e. does the passenger door need to be open for that one to work, if so have you checked all the fuses, it could be on a different circuit.
Have you tested for power and earth at the bulb holder?

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious, but it's best to start with the easy part first.
