R230 snapped bonnet release cable

Any way into the engine ?!

It appears to have either gone at the engine end or in the middle. The connection to the pull handle is fine.

3 days into ownership and something had to go wrong !

Any ideas ? had it in to Merc today and it's not covered under Tier 1 warranty. Could be a very expensive repair for something that's a very cheap part. If anyone with an R230 could pop their bonnet and get a quick piccy of the release mechanism it would be much appreciated. Car goes in on thursday for Merc to look at if I can't get the bonnet open myself.

If you bought the car from a dealer then Tier 1 Warranty or no Warranty after 3 days I would not expect them to pass you a bill.

I had a quick look under the bonnet of my SL but I reckon a photo would not be of any help. There are 2 release mechanisms but one wire serves the 2.
I suspect you need your car on a ramp and it might just be possible to use a hooked wire ( up through underside of bumper) to release bonnet. Sorry I cannot be of more help.

Hi Derek - can't seem to open it, but thanks to Malcolm have found a solution now. Under tray comes off, long flat bar up to each latch and flip to one side to pop the bonnet !

That gets me in, then just a case of a new cable I think.
