Radiator fan keeps running

Hi guys i have a small problem with my 1998 E300 Td today at work one of the guys came into the workshop saying my car was making loud noises. When i went out the radiator fans were running but the car was cold as it was last run 4 hours ago. If i turn on the ignition they stop turn off ignition they run again. So i am thinking a temp sensor or the fan relay is faulty,does anyone know the location of these, at the moment i have disconnected the fans but i am thinking if a relay is energised them i may have a flat battery tomorrow morning. Thanks for any help....

Below is what it looks like, I don’t know exactly where it is on your car.
Following the wiring from the fan should lead you to it.
