Question time. Friend of mine bought a ml (2003) at auction.
Everyting works fine exept for the rain and light sensor. when he has the lights on auto they flare up when the engine starts and the rain sensor does not work.

Does anyone have any ideas? cant find a blown fuse. Thx.

May not be connected properly - if mounted to the windscreen probably wired via sockets in the overhead lighting console - maybe the windscreen was replaced and the sensors were not re-connected.

Just a thought - worth checking - could be completely wrong on this.

Hmm - maybe the convenience menu is set for the lights to be always on, and perhaps it doesn't have auto wipers?

Window looks like the original. Factory date complies with the manufacturing date of the car.

2003 ML's arent the most advanced cars on the road .... not quite got the matrix dash at that vintage. Could however have been the problem on a facelift one

May be stating the obvious but, on mine they have to be switched to position 1 (intermittent) to work, they don't auto-wipe if switched off.

Could be a number of possibilietes in addition to the above:

1). Faulty sensor unit/black box (mounted on windscren) - my W203 was delivered from factory with one and headlamp locators would play up.

2). Sensitiviety of the rain sensor/lighting needs adjusting.

Let me guess ;-) i would need a laptop do change the sensitiviety? ;)

It's an official workshop job unless you have the software and appropriate cables etc. If it's done while it's in for a service then you may get it for free, if not expect 30 mins to 1 hour labour.
