hi there all
just to claify a point i went to the vin decoder to see what spec my car left the factory with. to my surprise it says it has rain sensing wipers, which i was unaware of, but was planned as a future mod. the thing is im not sure how exactly it works or if it has infact got the rainsensor module or ecu, i opened the little back box behind the rear view mirrior to locate a little box about 3inches by 2 inches which is placed behind a purple looking box from the outside of the windscreen, which i presume is the rain sensor pad, the part number from the box is 2108205710, if that helps, if someone could tell me what that part is and if i do infact have the rain sensing option of if it needs activating and how to use it i would be very greatfull, as its a mod i planned on doing before the winter months set in, a-how-to or diagrams ect would be very much appreciated regards to all merc man

Complete waste of time.....rain sensors drive me mad....they seem to have a life of their own!!

what a surprize!

2108205710 is indeed the rain sensor control unit

so i do have the unit!!!!!
now does anyone know how it works???
as i do know you have to set it on the stalk or something but the stalk does not have an auto mode, it has intermittant, normal and fast. if anyone can advise id be greatfull.

For rain sensing to work you need to leave the stalk in the intermittent (think it's the 1st) position.

It's like this on all the Mercs I've had any experience with W203, W209, W211, W220, R230 & W163. Think it's the same on all Mercs!

I've only ever had any problem when the screen is greasy and the wiper can't clear it. The wiper keeps going until the screen is cleaned using washer fluid, otherwise they've been brilliant.

ok so i leave it in the 1st position, but it seems to be intermittant and works when theres no water on the screen, wonder why?
ill give the screen a good clean tomorow and retest it and let you know how i get on but thanks to all you guys for your help regards merc man

The sensor needs to be firmly plugged into the front (screen facing) of the dome light. If it's not properly plugged in then the wipers will revert to standard operation.

Be careful though ;) . If you forget to turn them off completely they give a one wipe sweep when you turn the ign back on whether its raining or not and, if your screen is dry and/or has grit on it, you stand a chance of scratching your glass.

Really? That's ridiculous. Previous my Merc, I had several Peugeot 406 company cars and I really miss the auto wipers. However if they were left on, you had to turn them off then on again to restart them - they wouldn't wipe on startup (apart from wiping a dirty screen, you really wouldn't want them to try to start if the screen was iced up).

As far as them having a mind of their own, I recently drove an Accord, and that has the sensitivity adjustment on the wiper stalk. I *thought* it was a good idea, but it seemed impossible to get it right.

Yep, thats how they work on my a class and I've oft wondered if it should be so. Maybe I have a fault?, Its due a visit for a couple of other things so I'll ask them to take a look.

They don't on the W211, if the screen is clean and dry when you start up.

Does anyone know the official MB code for the rain sensor (w203)?

Me too.
As Porzy said too if you leave them on and say, it has rained and iced up you will get a wiper tearing wipe as you switch on.
Mine sweep far too often and I would much prefer intermittent.

The dealer can adjust this, I believe. I presume they could even disable it, so you'd revert to intermittant.

I like them
