Re-ordered number plate lettering

Two distinctions I think, illegal font and mis spacing, ANPR cameras can't read illegal fonts but they can read mis spaced plates in the correct font.

If all the letter and numbers are correct and in the correct font is it such a big issue? Only the really pedantic police would pull you for that one :dk:

I agree and have never bothered with mis spaced. as you say it is more a font issue, however people when mis spacing sometimes move letters/number too close together to look like a different digit or place extra screw caps in strategic places to alter the appearance.

All that time, I was blissfully unaware of being effectively invisible to the police, at least from the rear.

I'm sure some keen young copper could have thrown an enormous fine at me, but my only crime was to have not noticed..

Ignorance of the law is not a defence.

Do you also commit other serious crimes and pretend you did not know the law?

What a read this thread has been! From the OP needing to ask a simple question (which could have been answered by simply emailing the seller) to stating he issued tickets to owners of vehicles for being parked on the wrong side of the road at night, seemingly proud of it too (must be nice to Police such an area where thing takes such precedence) to members posting what could turn 'lesser people into racists' for having an MOT failure by a young Polish man.

Really?????

they delaminate every couple of years so you have to buy them again...overall, an expence I can do without.

For these reasons, I buy number plates entirely on cost. If a no-name seller on ebay will supply well-made plates for £15 a pair (and they do), I'll have them.

There may be a link between those two comments. I don't think I've ever had a numberplate delaminate. For example I've been driving the Vito for 8 years and the SL for 11 and the original plates are still perfect on both.

That's a bit like saying you can have any colour as long as it's black!
If the spacing has to be legal, then how can you have it spaced how you want?!?!

Not sure if you're serious? :dk:

Not squashing them together to make it look like something else. there is a rule about the size of the gap between letters, that would stay.

Just wondering, would this really annoy many on here?

That's the issue, isn't it. Plates are either legal or they're not. Once you start playing with the spacing then the temptation is to make other 'enhancements' because (AFAIK) the penalty isn't any greater if you get caught.

The other point is that as already mentioned a plate with mis-spaced characters or using a non-standard font is going to be a 'show' one (sold with a disclaimer stating not for road use), where the normal mandatory checks on ownership of the registration are skipped. So even if the reg. is still easily read/remembered there's no guarantee it actually matches the car. You can ask for anything you want on the plate.

It's illegal.

Yes it is annoying.

I doubt that I would even notice, I had to think about it to spot what it should look like.

Roman numerals would be very funny though.

Yes - fancy putting a VW badge on a numberplate! And is it actually on a V12?

No its currently on a diesel  but will be going on my R8 :D which is a V8 but still ;) It was on a V12 originally when SWMBO bought it me for my 40th though. (Jag XJ 12)

Mis-spaced number plates are so easy to work out - I don't understand why it would annoy anyone.

Hardly breaking the enigma code is it.

My neighbour Lyn had a plate "L-- SLK" on her Hyundai coupe. I can only assume she had an SLK before that!
