Hi, I've got a high mileage '00 clk, so it's got quite a few motorway chips, and it's starting to develop some rust and bubbles—the usual things for an ungaraged car of it's age I guess.

Anyway, I'm thinking of getting it externally re-sprayed (maybe particular panels, maybe the whole thing) and I'm wondering if anyone had any advice, or knew any reliable people who do this in the SE?

Thanks for any help!

My car is going for a full respray in SE London,to some very nice guys.Let me know if need more info

Check if it has a full Merc service history. The bubbles may be covered under warranty with Mobilife. Do a search on the forum, but effectively the bodywork is covered against corrosion for a certain period of time (20 yrs ?!) as long as you've owned it for 6 months and have a FMBSH (detail probably inaccurate !)

It's only covered for 8 years, with full MBSH and you must have owned it for 6+ months AFAIK.

The 30-year Mobilo warranty doesn't generally cover the rust that most people encounter unfortunately (T&Cs).

Regarding the OP's question - without seeing the car it's difficult, but I assume you'll be into £1-2k or so depending on exactly how much paint/prep is needed.

There's a few recommended bodyshops over the area - where abouts in the SE are you located?

Hey....

That respray contact can be handy, how much is he charging you for your respray as i had mines done a few years back but am in search for a 124 estate 7 seater and most prob get it resprayed....

Unless your car is something special like the 55AMG I would not spend too much money on a respray. At most just the bonnet and wings. A full body respray will cost ££££ but add little to the value.

That`s cool.My next project will be an estate.

Ha ha! No it's not a 55 sadly, it's the awesomely powerful 200!! I think you're right... might just stick to the bonnet.

Hi, thanks for the info. I bought the car second-hand and the book's missing a stamp unfortunately, so no coverage for me.

I'm actually in SE London, but thought it might be better value getting work done outside of London. I don't know if this is logical in this case, but it seems to apply to most things.

I'm very interested in any recommendations you could give for bodyshops...

Bump... did you guys get the work done? If so, did you get good results? Pictures please :)

I'm seriously thinking of getting my 140's bodywork freshened up.

Thanks!

I don't mind being without the car and I don't mind paying the right money as long as the job is done properly.

Looking forward to more pics...

Totally agree. This guys are not that cheap but when you`re spending all that money in an old car,it has to be done properly.I`ll only add more pic in about a month as i need to sort evrything as alloys etc.Is the best christmas present i`ve ever got :bannana:

A mate of mine who lives in Southend On Sea, had a quote for a full respray on his Jag. He was quoted £1,800-£2,000. But if he brought the car up hear to Liverpool the job would be much cheaper £1,400-£1,500.

i've got an old Merc on a J Plate with rust forming on 3 of the 4 arches. am looking for a spraying in west london to see if i can get it all cleaned up again.

how long would you except the arches to remain rust free after a clean and re -spray?

Currently tracking down some lithuanian sprayers in Brentford I've heard good things about (especially the prices).

Hoping to go and see them later in the week to ask about repainting a couple of wings I've just bought.

i have heard the same about some sprayers in Southall, but haven't had teh chance to go down there.

let me know how you get on. Good sprayers are hard to track down!
