Just got back from holidaying in Cornwall.

My car (2003 C180K estate) was cruised at 75-80mph, and the on board computer showed '39.7 MPG' on average.

I was expecting ~31.0 MPG. So when I filled the tank up I worked out that the average MPG was 40.1 MPG-so the computer was right.

Fuel used was Shell Optimax.

I know those of you with CDi's will get even better numbers, but it really is amazing what a C180K can do!

Not surprised, I took the C180 to SW France this year and averaged 41mpg and did some astounding times for the journey. Certainly not held back on the Autoroute!

A couple of years ago i had 43mpg average on a trip to scotland and back in a C180 kompressor hire car. I noticed that the economy slowly got better and better after the first 100 miles of each journey.

180k is a great engine for economy. I couldnt manage to break the 43.3 mpg tho.

I've just done 1800 miles in my C180k. My overall for the whole holiday was 33mpg and best was 35.5mpg. This was no economy run as the car was fully laden for nearly all of it.

Coming home I did a new personal best of 476 miles on one tank of fuel!! The digital readout said 10 miles to go but as I went over the dartford bridge (a steep hill) the range fell to zero- photo to follow. I thought if I run out of fuel actually on that bridge, I'll be popular!

Hey Greg, stay under 90 and you'll go even further :D :D

i can get 33 on a 400 mile trip from scarborough to plymouth or vice versa, and my car is 18 years old and 3.0 straight 6!!!

best I ever got was 27.1mpg on a 300 mile run to Cornwall .. not bad for a 5.5 liter engine with 3 people and luggage

As I recall my best is 30.9 on a trip up to Newcastle (approx 130 miles), it seems that being in fairly steady 60-80 mph traffic does have it's benefits......

Just got all time high for the Smart car at 52mpg on a full tank, fill to fill. an extra 3 mpg for not using the aircon.

This is about as good as its gets for me.

I think that's pretty good given that I don't generally dawdle and the journey involved Friday night traffic from Wokingham to South Devon. :)

I often managed 39+ out of my C180K on longer trips and around 30ish day to day stuff. Now I have the SLK230, I manage around 30ish for long journeys and 23ish around town!

Can't beleive you guys can get so much.
My first tank just cost me £48 to fill up (50 litres) with only 240miles of mixed driving and sticking to the speed limit. That works out at around 22mpg . Does this sound right?

Depends on whether you are in and around town - i would expect those figures to be about right if your driving around town - mine gives me about 22 in and around town as well - but on the mway - it should be far better.......

Just done mega miles on Holiday and worked out that I was getting 40 mpg. I had to calculate this a few times as firstly I was in doubt as to my accuracy. Not bad for a 12 year old 2.2

That'll be where I'm going wrong then. :)

Me too!

I normally have the climate on all the time, but tried without yesterday and was shocked ... at how stuffy the car got, ... and how the diesel consumption decreased.
