Real world MPG

Me too!

I normally have the climate on all the time, but tried without yesterday and was shocked ... at how stuffy the car got, ... and how the diesel consumption decreased.

Gets very stuffy with the climate off! I leave it on all the time too. I only switch it off if the trip computer shows 2 miles to go with not a petrol station in sight! :o

Just done mega miles on Holiday and worked out that I was getting 40 mpg. I had to calculate this a few times as firstly I was in doubt as to my accuracy. Not bad for a 12 year old 2.2

I see you finally managed to work out how to use that calculator................ Technology tamed hey !!!! :D :D

It could be that your pollen filter is blocked. You shouldn't need the aircon on in the weather we are currently having.

My own filter was blocked but airflow is now much improved since a quick vac out. The filter isn't very old.

I changed mine after just 10 months yesterday, and what a difference. Not to the airflow, but to the odours entering the car! I bought a Mann + Hummel filter last time, thinking, hmm good name for filters, but boy was i wrong! It stank like a dying chicken had crawled into my ducts after about week 3! Now I have an unknown brand cheapo thing from ATU (German equiv of Halfords) and it's great... No more gasmask for me on the way to work!!!

My C180 is not that good then, driving in london suburbs I get about 21MPG and on motorway journey at around 100mph get about 26MPG and the record best ever was 31MPG on a long journey.

Can't beleive you guys can get so much.
My first tank just cost me £48 to fill up (50 litres) with only 240miles of mixed driving and sticking to the speed limit. That works out at around 22mpg . Does this sound right?

About right I reckon. I average between 20 and 21 around town in my C32 - same engine, different car. Only 26/27 on a run though, and that's driving like a daisy!!

E320cdi V6

11 hours plus in the saddle on UK roads fuel consumption OK from E320cdi V considering I was not driving with economy in mind, right foot in the carpet much of the time.

Special report by Whatcar claims official MPG a £192 million a year industry 'con'
http://www.whatcar.com/news-special-report.aspx?NA=221542

independent tested report
http://www.whatcar.com/noncar/3176642131.jpg

Yup I saw that, but I get pretty darned close to the official 'combined' figure with my cars. For my Sharan the book figure is 24.4, coming back from Germany on Saturday fully laden with some unrestricted autobahn but also some stop/start jams and some urban driving I averaged 27.5 over the 550 miles.

Regarding the MPG readings on Mercedes trip computers are they accurate?
(I don't have a trip on my W210)

The trip computer on my Avensis is like 1.5 to 3.5 MPG out, if I tank up and manually calculate it.

e.g. it reports 38 MPG when it's actually 35.5 MPG for example.

CLK 230k 23mpg

Hi this is the worst merc ive had for mpg always around 250 miles per tank 23mpg Crap wish I bought 3.2 or 4.3
