Really Really Stupid People

I’ve looked before and couldn’t see it , but I’ve been told on more than one occasion by instructors at Tulliallan that it is a little known piece of legislation, introduced, I think , to exclude things like mopeds , tractors and the like .

I’ve never heard of anyone being prosecuted, and of course if there is a hold up you can’t avoid stopping .

Is that the Police College you're referring to?

Back when I was a teenager in the 80's I applied to go along. The idea was to do a few laps of the skid pan in some old Avenger on bald tyres and then get taken out by proper drivers. The skid pan thing was cancelled because, believe it or not, a contractor had resurfaced it with the wrong tarmac which was way too grippy.

But the drive by the qualified driver was astonishing. At one point I was going "Bloody Scorpio. Rubbish dampers. Bouncing all over the place". Then I looked at the speedo and we were well into treble figures. Racing driver smoothness. Astonishing car control.

Just reading Soldier Spy about the M15 and reading about their driving training reminded me of that little episode.

That does surprise me. I thought the days of tradesmen going for a quick one on the way home from work were long gone.
We used to go on a Friday afternoon for a pie & a pint at a pub close to any given building site but not something I want to do nowadays given the drink/drive risks.
Without naming names. Tonight there was 1 x painter and decorator ,1 x carpet fitter, 1 x gas engineer, 2 x general builder, 1 x carpenter , 1 x plasterer and 2 x window fitters all enjoying an after work pint. 4 had left their vans at home and walked . More than a few will leave their vans in the pub car park and pick them up in the morning (nothing worth stealing in a plasterers van) , most just have a pint and a chat - some call it 'networking' nowadays, but it's just trades keeping each other in the loop about what job is on where. Most of these guys make a healthy living without business cards and websites, some hardly ever answer their mobile phones..thats if they remembered to take it to work in the morning. Old school and happy with it.

I might have used some of these guys.

I am on my way up there now for a well deserved pint. I guarantee there will be at least 6 blokes in there right now who have driven a van today of some type or other...7 when I get in there. it's that type of pub. most every one of the early evening crowd are tradesmen of one type or another + a few cowboys.

Nothing like a pint or two or 3 or 4..............:D

Shocking driving by this idiot., watch until the end. It's on facebook so not sure if you need an account

Concentrating whilst driving on a... - Spotted Coventry City

Apart from the Fiesta hitting the Truck, I witness that sort of Lane Discipline every couple of days on my Commute to and from Cambridge, mostly in the Mornings between 04:30 & 05:20!

I have been doing the same Commute for Six Years, I used to Flash my Headlights etc, but after either being totally Ignored, or the Culprit trying to "Brake Test" me after a while I just gave up and let them get on with it:(

I went along out of curiosity and was initially very sceptical when the driver started the commentry. But after a while I was totally won over. Such a disciplined approach. And the driving was racing driver smooth. Really made an impression on ne.

One of my friends was a Class 1 police driver / motorcyclist. He finally ended up as a Training Captain with British Airways, so was probably quite good at controlling complex machinery in any case.

He was / is an excellent driver and I learned a lot from him - fast, smooth and safe. I've always believed that evidence of skill (or lack of) is much more obvious on two wheels rather than four. I never could match his effortless ability of handling a big heavy bike at very low speeds, e.g. full lock U-turns. Any silly sod can ride a bike fast in a straight line, it takes a lot more skill to cope with the low speed stuff.

cant tell if they touch the ground with the wide footrests or not( perhaps points deducted if they ground it)

At the other end of the spectrum - here's someone going rather quickly in a straight line....

Quite an impressive showing for a motorcycle - even for one with 300+ bhp. This is the 'track only' version, the street legal one can only manage a paltry 200bhp.

I would not have expected it (or any motorcycle) to out-drag an F1 car. Throw in some hard braking with a few corners though, and I think the result would be rather different.

Power to weight ratio. Over 1000bhp/tonne on that bike. Problem is getting traction off the line without flipping it. On the autobahn there's nothing to catch a well ridden litre bike. Same at the Cat & Fiddle in the good old days.

Well today we had one amazingly stupid f*ckwit. Coming back from picking my little girl up and the traffic suddenly gets really heavy at about 8.30 on the M25. It's usually clear at this point. Eventually I catch up with the obstruction.

This bloke has had a blow out, you can't see but his front drivers side tyre is flapping around, he has his hazard lights on and is doing approximately 30mph. Despite traffic slowing, various drivers flashing him and giving him the chance to pull over his lane of choice was lane 4 of the M25.

Inexplicably stupid!!

I once had to limp home on a flat tyre - I did stop to change it , but the wheel bolts were so tight I broke the wheelbrace when I finally stood on it to try to free them .
I did limp along the hard shoulder to the next exit , then the three miles or so home .
It was before the days of mobile phones .
