I assume you have the wood trim then (which you will find on closer examination is two layers of quite thick wood veneer with a nice piece of metal in between !) - it is possible with the correct tools, but not for the faint hearted (that piece of wood is mighty expensive if you screw it up !) 'Carbon-Fibre look' trim, as found on the sport models of the 202 C-Class is plastic, and much cheaper. Cutting the hole is likely to be the worst part, and the wiring will sadly not be pre-installed, although there will be logical wiring channels that you can use to run the wires, with a bit of dismantling - shouldn't be too difficult I wouldn't have thought.

The job is a Big job, the rear blind doesnt fit the standard parcel shelf on a C and I bet it doesnt on an E either. This means the rear carcel shelf needs replaced with the correct one for the rear blind (£££) and then you can buty the loom and remove much of the interior to fit it, then cut a precision hole in the wood trim as Sym said. Its possible as I can think of one car thats got it and another thats getting it. I would say this is a 7/10 difficulty mod!

its not that major of a job, But as R2D2 says most of the trim will need to come out and parcel shelf replaced!

It is possible to cut a slot in the shelf trim but IMHO it's too flimsy and the one that's designed for the job probably has some structure in there to stop it from warping or flexing, the last thing you want is the shelf obstructing the blind - the motor is a beast and would probably tear the shelf to bits!

A new shelf is about £100, the switch is about £10, the wiring is about £20, the blind itself is about £400+ and the motor for the blind is about £150 on it's own I think (comes with the main blind but is available separately). The plastic cockpit trim is about £20 but I bet the wooden one is about 3x that price going on previous experience.

10 x that price in my experience ... yes, seriously !! Was quoted £250 for a small piece of wood !!!!

I've just noticed a small piece of wood under my desk Sym, you can have it for a paltry £100......

Hows that for a bargain..... ;)

I take it all back then! At least the faux-carbon is just plastic and not actually carbon or it'd make the wooden bits look cheap in comparison and IIRC carbon isn't exactly dremel-friendly either!

I cheated and bought a new trim! Oh just to that you know the switches in a c and an E look identical but the hole needed is slightly different shape. I've seen the result of cutting a E class standard hole for a c class switch! (No it wasnt me!)

Alps what shall we say then 6/10!

Big job then? might wait until the summer to do it, Still a job i would tackle though, had factory fit blind in my 124 e 280 miss it so much, definitly will do it along with other facelift mods should of paid a bit more and bought the AVANTGARDE instead of Elegance to late now .

Don't beat yourself up too much - they weren't standard on the Avantgarde's either ... would have been a cost option on pretty much any car I should think.
