Hi

Have a 2003 w203 with auto dipping mirrors , now noticed the drivers side has stopped dipping ! The centre mirror still does , had the cover off (just in case lose wire etc ) the side mirror and all is good . Any ideas what to do now ? The centre mirror seams favourite to check (although , not sure how to remove/split , any help ?) it has been "buzzing" like its lose inside , if I tap it she stops .

Cheers

Jon

If the side mirror glass looks good, perhaps it is a wiring issue at the door hinge area.

Does it have a temp sensor at the mirror (or near by)? Try a vacuum cleaner at that area. Temp sensors have a fan that sometimes sucks dirt that starts to make noise from the air flow to the sensor.

If the interior RVM is dipping OK then I would suggest as DB above, that you have a broken wire either in the door hinge bellows or more likely in the pivot area inside the mirror casing.

The mirror glass may also be faulty, there is a liquid inside that is polarised by a small current to effect the "dipping" Does it look clear or is there any shading?

Hopefully it is not faulty not as a new glass is rather expensive, circa £350 or so from MB.

Hi

Cheers for all your replies :-) when I bought the car earlier this year it had the dreaded "liquid look" , bought a second hand one and all been fine until I noticed last week it's not working , the centre mirror (which has the sensor) does , temp display is reading bang on . As I mentioned the centre mirror does buzz (not electrical) just tap with finger and it goes for a minute , hour , week etc depending how it's feeling , so my thoughts turned to that , maybe lose wire (hence noise) . Had the drivers mirror cover off and it's all good , no splits in wires etc , so maybe it's in the door loom

Cheers

You need to pop the mirror off, attach a multimeter and see if power is reaching there when it should be dimming - i realise this is probably a 2 man job unless you have a multimeter with croc-clips. If it is not, then its likely the mirror wiring in the hinge, especially if you fold the mirrors.
