...is there a trick to putting them back in?

Have done the necessary wiring for mine but now cant pop the new one back in place.

How do you do it?

Is this the type with the opposing spring plungers? Enter one side, place end of rubber hammer shaft against other end and give sharp upward push. A light smear of vaseline helps insertion. (as they say).

Cheers mate, will give that a try tomorrow.
It really is a pain in the backside at the moment!

Yes

Found mine a pain when I fitted the dimming RVM. Squeezed the pins in a vice to check they were free and noticed one didn't spring back out. There is a little wire spring that engages in a notch one one of the pins and retains it, this makes the mirror much easier to fit (when fitted the wire is pushed out of the way and the pin can spring out fully).

Hope that's clear  with the mirror facing you the wire spring I'm talking about is on the right hand pin.

Lol, cheers mate, will have to try that actually.
Will report tomorrow with my results

Found this was a lot easier with some wd40 on!

Still cant get this bloody thing on, so i took some pics of the spring part.
Let me know if you notice anything out of place

If you have a sunroof, open it & stand up through it so that you can get arms in a better position to exert some force on the mirror- this is how I did mine, after using some WD40 on the pins.

Wow, that is actually a GREAT idea.
I never thought to do that. Thanks mate, will give a try tomorrow and post up my results.

Ok, im f*cked off with this mirror

Anyone fancy giving me a hand with it :p

Either that or im going to take it to Colin Ferns and get one of the lads there to do it lol

Give it a firm wack upwards.

Be paatient and keep trying.

Im flying away for a bit on Tuesday but may have to take you up on that offer when i get back!

Get a big flat screwdriver
Put one side of the mirror in (so the catch spring thing is seated most of the way into the bracket fixed to the roof), and push the spring thing in on the other side with the big flat screwdriver so you can start to clip it in place. Pull out big flat screwdriver whilst still pushing on the mirror

Where exactly are you trying to insert this? :D

But seriously, I had the same problem when I swapped for an auto dimming mirror in my W202. As others have said, exercise the two pins a few times with mole grips or something similar.
Then, I put one side in and used a large rubber handled hammer to drive the other side in. Could put a tea towel over the point of impact to prevent damage to plastic.

It is awkward but it will go in.

It is now in!

My old man done it in 5 minutes

Quick pic of the now functioning auto-dimming mirror complete with the mascot, now named Gunther :D

Phew, that's a relief it's finally fixed!
