Hi all,
has anyone had any experience of this? What might I be expected to pay?
My 1993 rear window is delaminating and needs replacing.
Option 1 - accidentally break it and claim for a new one - problem - it's illegal and I am not prepared to consider it, even though I was advised to do this by a local 'reputable' garage.
Option 2 - phone around and wince at the quotes then just put up with a faulty rear demist and naff looking window.
Option 3 - There's a place in Cologne that only charge about £170 plus fitting. Bit of a drive but......
Cheers
Kieron

I have the same problem and posted a thread here sometime back asking the same, but no responses > THREAD

I've done nothing yet, but I will replace it sometime this summer.

Q.

a screen doesnt have to be broken to get it replaced on insurance, i got my front screen done as it was badly scratched which affected my vision at night and in bad wether etc, although I know the same wouldnt be applicable for the rear screen. I called my insurance and brefore i could even finish explaing why i wanted a new screen they had put me though to National Windscreens for an appointment, it cost me £75 excess and I never heard anything from my insurance the windscreen guys took care of all the paperwork etc. Give your insurance a call and see what happens, you have nothing to loose, if you make it seem like the window might somehow fly out and cause and accident im sure they would be more than happy to replace it.

When the front windscreen on one of my W124's was delaminating in the bottom corner ( as so many of them do ) I dropped into my local windscreen replacement place , they replaced it under the insurance , charging me only the £50 excess , and wrote 'stone' on the form !

Nice new windscreen and no questions asked .

Windscreen places obviously are happy to get the business by any means .

You cannot , in law , be negligent towards yourself - so if , for arguments sake , you hit your screen with a stray golf ball whilst practising in your garden , damaged it whilst trying to put that awkward surf board into your car , or bringing that large flat pack box home from Ikea - then , in law , you have done no wrong and are entitled to claim for a replacement under your insurance - nothing illegal at all .
