Reasons to/not to buy

not a bad choice but dont forget if no one has said, vista is very bugger, as are all windows OS until they bring out there first service pack, in about a year, so dont be surprised if you have problems with the system, oh and there seems to be a lot of software issues even with there own products ie office. Good luck

Hardly fair. Some of us thought the Toshiba fine, but merely suggested trying to extend the warranty. That applies to all makes. IMO Japanese are much the most reliable.

I think you missed the element of sarcasm!

Missed this thread originally, but for what it's worth I think it's a good choice of laptop. The toshiba satellite range is generally very solid; a number of people I know (including my father) have been using them for a good few years.

One thing to check - is your 1Gb memory in one 1Gb DIMM or two 512Mb DIMMs? You can find out by running CPUz, available for free from http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php (click on the memory information bit).

If it's a single 1Gb DIMM, it will be easier to upgrade later as you'll have an empty slot and will just need to add a second 1Gb DIMM.

If it's two 512Mb DIMMS, it will be marginally faster at the moment because the DDR memory will be running in dual channel mode (twice the memory bandwidth, generally agreed to be about a 10% performance increase, although you won't be able to see the difference in the real world), but you'll have to throw both DIMMs out to upgrade since there are only two slots.

it is two 512 DIMMs so will be the more expensive upgrade option:rolleyes: But I'm going to see how it goes.
