I was stuck on the M25 tonight for quite a while, and with time on my hands I started thinking of 10 reasons why I love driving my SClass....

Thought I would share them with you, of course all of this is purely subjective!

1 Because I love the look of hate on the faces of the lesbians that drive 900cc peace wagons as I loom up behind them.

2 It makes me feel like an eastern European dictator

3 Because I could knock of the cocks on motorbikes that filter at ridiculous speeds in slow traffic putting my safety at risk, and not really feel them

4 I can close my electric rear blinds so i cant see the tossers in white vans or M3's as I cruise in the outside lane observing the speed limit

5 Its cheaper to maintain than my Subaru Forester or my wifes Alfa Romeo Spider

6 I still manage to find new features on it that I never new about

7 Because its finished properly by using dead animal skin and felled timber

8 Its designed logically and I am able to fathom many problems out myself, unlike the designer of my Subaru that must have been on mushrooms when he designed it

9 Its not a BMW

10 I can stack the CD changer with my collection of classic rock and Norwegian death metal and not any of the wifes crap.

Clearly I am sure you'll agree.....:p

Are you sure.

Only No 6. Maybe No 5 and 9.

Where you serious about the other's ?

No.3 certainly is - what's wrong with motorcylists filtering past you in slow traffic - it is a perfectly legitimate thing to do.

How does it put your safety at risk? Surely the other way around?

i think you'll find its the "at ridiculous speeds" thats the problem, i used to ride bikes, so i know you are higher and can see more blah blah blah, but some bikers DO buzz between cars way to fast in traffic queues, i have lost a couple of mirrors over the years and they never stop to say sorry.

doh, surely you only 'cruise' when overtaking....

I dont have anything against bikers up until a few years ago I was part of that club too and very much enjoyed riding my ZX9R. What does annoy me is the complete lack of respect for other road users demonstrated by some bikers but this seems particularly a problem in the slow moving M25 traffic. I witnessed a guy on a CBR last week who must have been doing 35mph in traffic that was crawling being hit by a lady in a Corsa. The Corsa driver did everything correctly indicated and slowly moved into the centre lane. The bike simply couldnt stop and was knocked off. Luckily for him the traffic in the centre lane was travelling so slowly as he would have been hit by oncoming traffic and certainly killed or badly injured.

The poor girl was very very shaken but I acted as witness. It was the bikes fault 100%....

I heard somewhere that filtering was going to be made illegal in slow moving traffic?

I can't help noticing how many of your points boil down to "because I'm better than everybody else".

If that's the effect the car has on you, I'm glad I don't have one...

I too enjoy driving my S Class, but oddly for absolutely none of the reasons you put forward!
Oh! And I'm a biker as well!

Wow, you really have become quite bitter, haven't you?!! I must admit I have never come across an ex-biker such as you. You surely know how hard it is to ride two wheels these days due to the high volume of 4+ wheel traffic on the road??
OK, so the CBR guy was going too fast but FGS these are a minority!!

Are they.? I used to regularly drive to work down the M1 and have seen four or five bikers fetched off in similar fashion. It's not sensible to filter down traffic when it's doing 20-30mph, last week one was filtering traffic that was doing 70mph and last night travelling home in the rain so hard you could only drive at 70 if you were brave, a bike came batting past.

Bikers get themselves a bad name then try to blame car drivers.
I'm not at all anti bike, just wish they'd either ride sensibly or accept they are at fault.

It's the usual thing Dieselman - we notice the ones who cause problems and ride badly but rarely comment on the majority who ride sensibly.

It does seem that the nearer to London you get, the worse the standard of driving/riding gets!!

Speaking for myself, I only filter if the traffic is at a standstill and only at a low speed that ensures I can see forward enough to brake/take avoiding action for the minority of drivers who don't like bikes who filter!!

Agreed! I ride my bike on the road like everyone is trying to kill me. In 40 years I've yet to be dissapointed and I'm still here to tell the tale....:o

LOL! It certainly seems that way sometimes!!

Apologies PJayUK - didn't mean to turn your thread into a 'Defend the Bikers' one!!

Threads 11 + 12 Absolutely. No 1 whats that all about ?

It was the girl in the Corsa that I felt sorry for. She was only young & on the way to visit her friends. She was in a terrible state and needed to be treated for shock, although she wasn't injured physically. The biker got up (fortunately) and started to swear and shout at her. If he wasnt wearing his helmet I would have knocked the idiot out for being so aggressive when it has his fault. Funnily enough the girl had 3 witnesses in her favour!

I used to love biking and I am not in any way anti bikers or anti bikes. My issue is that a minority have a complete disregard for the safety and themselves and other road users.

And no I dont think I am better than anyone else, just because I drive a 9 year old SClass but I do try and drive it with respect and consideration to other road users.
