Just wondered...has anyone pressed the red SOS button in their W205-S205...If you broke down and pressed it...What happens?

Other half pressed it by mistake; the car calls Mercedes call-centre and they ask what is needed. If they don’t get a response, then they notify the emergency services and give the car GPS location to them.

Thanks for the info...clever these Merc's

yeah i was told not to press if you have broken down only for an actual mad accident or under threat lol

I think if you have an accident where the airbags are deployed; the car will automatically dial the Mercedes help centre and again if there is no response from the car occupants, the emergency services are called and car GPS position passed on.

It’s a great system that one hopes will never be needed. Not exclusive to MB though. Our 2018 Mondeo had a virtually identical system in the same place.

Indeed not unique to MB. I know someone that had a shunt in a RangeRover Sport. The car dialled the emergency services and when the police showed up soon thereafter, he was found to be over the limit and lost his license…

Sorry to be a bit dim, but how do the Mercedes people contact you once the button is pressed.

I pressed by mistake on my w205 searching for interior light when i first bought it, and it comes up on the screen do you want services yes or no, Phew i panicked you just turn the selection wheel on the centre console to No to cancel. Ha nearly needed them to cope with my panic.

So if you select YES you want services, what happens next. Do they phone the car through the in car system.
Do you need to have a blue tooth mobile phone connected, I don’t have such a thing. What happens?

As mentioned above, the car has its own SIM. So pressing the button calls the help centre using the on-board SIM, the help centre pick up the phone and talk to the occupants of the car. As I understand it, if the emergency services are required, they make the call and pass on the GPS location.

Manufactures have been wanting to get cars online for years. That then opens the way up for gathering data from the vehicle remotely, over the air updates and push notifications.
Customers aren't likely to choose that as an option, so they lobby the EU with a great safety feature that requires every vehicle to be connected to the cloud. Bingo, that's the door opened.
At the moment data protection and privacy laws in Europe heavily restrict what the manufacturer can do with that connection, but I'm sure that'll change.

That being said, the SOS is a good feature and over the air updates will be good for the owners.
