Refitting Door Handle Trim - W210

One of my rear door handles had to be removed a few years back during a bit of respraying to repair some damage to the door. Ever since then, the handle has been prone to coming off. Especially if pulled at a particular angle (towards the rear of the car), which causes the small end cap to come loose and the handle to come off in my hand!

As the years have gone by it has started happening more often, so I have purchased a new end cap from Mercedes, hoping that this would a more permanent fix. It seems to just push into place once the handle is in the correct position.

But it still seems to come loose, as often as the old one. Is there some sort of adjustment I should be making to make it a tighter fit? There are a couple of round headed phillips screws immediately behind the end cap, should I be adjusting them?

Any advise would be appreciated.

I have attached a couple of pics so that you can see what I mean.

Hi,
There is an allen screw hidden by the door rubber which will need tightening up fully.

Thanks for the advice guys.

You are quite right, there is a small access hole behind the rubber weather seal on the door. Which gives clear access to the allen screw... which was missing!!!

That explains why the handle has been falling off all the time doesn't it.

It would seem that I didn't need to buy the new end cap at all. Should have checked with you experts first. That will teach me.

I now need to source a new allen grub screw. I suppose that will mean another trip to my Merc dealer.

Thanks for the help.
