Forgive me if You have exhausted this question before :o

I am considering having my car remapped by Tuning Diesel in Slyfield Guilford. Is there any real benifit to a car with 148,000 miles on the clock?

Their claimes are remarkable and for someone like myself who would like a little more power claimed up to 30bhp with added fuel economy it sounds magical.

Has anyone else spent £300 tuning an 11 year old car and thought it was a good move? Moreover has anyone used Tuning Diesel in Guilford?

Thanks in advance guys.

you will see very noticeable gains in power and overall drive, the engine power output profile will be far more aggressive than standard. Fuel consumption will take a small hit if you have a lead foot, its definitely a good idea in my opinion

Improved my cars response, not as much as previous cars i have done though (1.9 tdi VAG), as that was pushed from 130 bhp to 180 bhp, quite a difference.

Angel do group buys through this forum, £150 per car (by memory) took mine to one early this year. May be best to wait for another or try and start a group buy yourself?

The 2002 ML270CDI had 69,000 on the clock when re-mapped from 163BHP to 220BHP. The difference was incredible and the MPG did not change.

However, the guy that remapped my car said that he would actively refuse to map a vehicle over 100k (assumed original engine in vehicle) because remapping *can* shorten the life of the engine and cause extra wear and tear. He may have been a little overcautious, but I guess he does not want to be having warranty claims against him because vehicles were too old in the first place.

As for your own predicament - IMHO: I would save the money for a new car in a few years. Your car itself is pretty powerful - I would get a really thorough service done (get the manifold cleaned, egr, all filters and oils including the diff and get everything sorted out)

Potentially interested in a remap if a group does form, has anyone had experience/remapped a r129?

Presumably one has to inform the insurers and does that increase the premium, if so by what %?

7g is fitted to a 420cdi and 63 AMG's, it will take the extra 50-100ft/lb extra of torque that the remapped engine will give out

Lez's car is a W201 with 722.6 box.

Let's see what KLP92 thinks to chipping Cdi's and gearboxes going bang within days. ;)

Are you advising against a remap? The reason I'm asking is that I'm about to book one with Angel Tuning

The gearbox was designed to stand a set amount of torque when new. With a new map you are likely to exceed that value readily, so will it be good for an old box?

Also, ask the mappers what the maximum EGT you are likely to see will be. They won't know, but it's fun to ask...:D

The decision is yours.

I asked my local dealershio about fittng the Brabus D3 to my motor and he responded by saying that the engine is worn in after about 60k and thus would not recommend it.....

Its probably just insurance from them but does have a point in my IMHO. Im sure others will disagree....

Have a look at this thread here, he’s remapped a W210 E320 CDi to 265hp/650Nm.

Your E320 should have a 722.626 which will be rated for more torque than other 722.6xx gearboxes.

My 211 320CDi pushed 267bhp and 550nm after an ECU remap.

It was ment to have 204bhp but when tested on the dyno it pushed 221 or something, was abit surprised.

Mind you it use to run on V power diesel and BP Ultimate all the time so I'm not sure if that had any effect...

Was a very quick car, mid range torque compared to standard was amazing, not many cars could match it, I paid £400 for the ECU remap which was a dyno of before&after, totally changed the drive/feel of the car and well worth every penny imo!

My friend had a ferrari 355, one night I had a go with him at the lights, we were side by side till about 65-70 then he pulled 1 cars length ahead! (he blamed it on a blown fuse blah, blah) ;)

having said that, every time I tried my luck with my friends 2001 E55AMG I never really stood much of a chance. (his has had a remap as well!)
