If you enable remote access on a PC and it is on a network can this PC be remotely accessed or will the router block any attempts to get in. I am on holiday next week and may need to access my works PC. Or will I need to buy some software?
I ask because if your works PC is at work, you may find your BOFH has specifically set firewall rules to block this kind of access. To be honest, leaving this open is a major weakness.
I don't work from home, but the one occassion my co director and I are on holiday at the same time, I know bad planning All I need to do is access my emails, thats the easy bit, and reply to them which may mean attaching letters from my documents. I would put them on a memory stick, but most public computers don't like you using them.

Agree, it is very unlikely that this will work with a work PC. Best to test it before you go away, or put files on a home computer/laptop, if thats what you need.
Spike, good mention of the BOFH, must take a peek at what he has been upto this week.
www.logmein.com works well and its free forever and ever but with limitations but if you want to use it just to log into a remote machine then this works well i use it to monitor clients PCs and also fix errors and other problems

If trying to access from works PC you may need to check if they have the correct ports open to enable this to work porperly.
