Remote Alarm Triggering

When I had a 190E the remote key could operate the alarm by holding down the lock button.

Why did they discontinue this feature, as it is useful if you see someone messing with your car etc.

When was it discontinued, and which cars had it?

That's because the alarm in your 190E was a third party alarm not a factory fit MB alarm.

The US version of our DAS electronic keys have a separate red panic button on them specifically for activating the alarm. It's a feature that never saw the light of day in the UK or any of the European markets as far as I am aware.

.

Yes it was a third party alarm, fitted by the lease company, but NO red button, just press and hold the lock button.

I've got one of those on my keyboard...very useful

I'm sure that it could be done BUT problem would be finding a Stealer to reprorgram the REAR SAM (all Stealers I have approached for i.e. Netherlands setting have refused apart from Gr**n**ks and I personally would NEVER allow them amywhere near our cars again. Other problem would also be getting DC to programme the key thobs for us so that it is eletronically coded for our cars.

Panic feature on the key thob would eb very useful. Had this feature on the alarm remote of a Toytota RAV4.

thob? wot's vat?

I thought my E300TD had 'lazy locking' when I first got it, i.e. you press and hold the 'lock' button and your windows and roof close fully too, but it seems to have lost this function. Perhaps a new battery would help

I think a new battery would help, I remember another member of the forum couldn't get their windows and roof to open or close remotely and their problems were solved by a fresh set of batteries in the keyfob.

dealer did my 2005 203 for me , very nice head mechanic :)

if the rear sam is set to mexico , it will let you use the beep and panic function , dunno if the key would need reprogramming too . SteveNL would be the dude to ask.

I'm sure I read something from Shude along the lines of each key is manufactured for a specific car (VIN) and the existing keys are permanently programmed to a specific vehicle and cannot be retro-programmed to a different vehicle (making all the keys for sale on ebay pretty much useless). A car can have upto a maximum of 8x keys programmed for it and when a lost key is deactivated by a deaker to prevent theft they are in effect striking one of the 8 from the list.

U obviously came across a nice chap. Stealers that I have approached went on to say that they either do not know how to do it (even when I gave them instructions) or said that it was illegal and against some regulations in the UK... (which it is... ) I know someone who bought a new car of one Stealer who refused to change setting on my rear sam becaus eit was illegal, and the Salesman arranged for his rear sam to be set to Netherlands

Apparentlty, from doing reserach on US forums, under Mexcio REAR SAM setting u loose the "bleep" feature upon lock/unlock and vice versa with Neterherlands (u loose the panic feature).
