Hi

The battery went dead on my w202 c180 auto yesterday. green flag jumped it for me but i later found out that the remote central locking/alarm is not working.

the fob still lights up and the central locking works with the key in the door. do i need to reset the alarm or something?

help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers
Matt

According to the manual for my W202 (with the Red & Green lights on the RVM) says on Page 37

"If the car cannot be locked or unlocked, it may be necessary to synchronize the sytem. To do this, aim the transmitter of the remote control at the receiver in the interior mirror and press transmitter button briefly twice. Turn the key in the steering lock to position 2 within 30 seconds. The lock system is then operational again."

Nope didnt work. And the battery was dead again this morning. doh. gunna get a new battery today. Anyone got any others ideas why the RCL and alarm isnt working????????????

I think the battery may be your answer. When the voltage drops below a certain level all kinds of stuff happens to the accessories. It could certainly explain the probs with CL and alarm - which operates partly on voltage drops and may not even set itself if the battery's too low.

going to halfords tonight for a drop test on the battery (after green flag come and jump start it again!) and will buy a new battery if they say its that thats gone. fingers crossed that sorts the rcl too!

cheers
matt

SCORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Replaced the battery and she starts fine and the alarm/rcl works again. must have shut down due to low power (clever car!)

thanks for everyones help.

N.B. The battery halfords sold me (£63.99) was a lot smaller than the old OE one. had to hold it in place with a piece of wood! ho hum.

Are you sure that the new battery has the same amp-hour rating as the original? One possible reason for the difference in size is a lower rating.

Oh dear, just purchased a MB 100Ah battery from stealer for £70 (actually I cheekily asked for a 10% so ended up paying £63). This is the really big battery for the W202 and requires the smaller battery clamp.

hmmmmmm... i probably should have gone for this one. Mr Halfords assured me this was the correct battery for the w202 C180 but it would have been nice to have the proper size. oh well. am thinking of selling soon and moving on to an mr2 (maybe turbo if funds permit!). sorry if this is blasphemy on this forum!

Hi everyone

I have got 95' model C180 (W202), I have the same problem as yours. I tried reprogramming the key fob as mentioned in this post.. It is still not working.. Could you advice me on how did you succeed with your resetting the fob..

Thanks

Akshay

Cheers wongl, worked on my C250, so simple after so much head scratching!

Need to know the the amp hours AH and cold cranking CC figures for the new battery. Some modern batteries[ silver/calcium type] have much better CC figures than older types. This means you don't need the same capacity as before which was the only way to get good cold start performance. Using wood [ an organic material ] in close proximity to battery acid is not a good idea. The battery supplied should have fitted the car's battery clamping setup [ they are adjustable often] If not they have supplied you with the wrong battery and you should check that out on their website application guide . Car Batteries To be fair they may have just tried to help you out if you were desperate to get mobile again and given you the nearest substitute they had in stock.

Just checked the original date of this thread -
