hi

my silver W124 estate has some corrosion around the inner window frame where the rubber goes for the rear side windows.

i want to remove the windows and repair the rust and reseal the windows, before the rust gets through to the outer bodywork requiring paint etc

how do you remove the trim etc around here... there is an alloy panel that has 2 screws visible when you open the rear doors, but is it then clipped on? i tried to remove these before on my green W124 estate but gave up as i felt i was was going to bend the metal (i ended up injecting some black gutter sealant that fixed leak on that one).

any advice would be appreciated.

cheers

derek

The trim is held in by the rubber seal, be gentle and it will come off. You need to strip quite alot of the interior trim to get them back in properly though.

When I did the same job on mine I found that it was fairly easy to pry the trim out of the seal starting at the rear door side where the retaing screws are (Plastic spatula is ideal), but the sloping part close to the tailgate needed to be gently pulled back along the direction of the seal as there is hook on the end of it.

To put them back in, slide the sloping part in them tap back in with a soft face hammer. A rubber dead blow hammer is ideal if you have one.

I seem to remember that there is good thread on here about rear load area window removal and I'd link to it if the search engine was working this morning. I found the thread helpful, but in the end wimped out and got my local bodyshop to do the windows out/ de-rust/windows replace job for me.

No leaks, no rust now, but I was lighter to the tune of £300.
