Read a thread, actually a couple on adjusting the park position on W202 wiper mechanism.. dont know how to actually remove the whole thing though?

Little help? Would have bought Haynes manual but they dont cover 6 cylinder versions..

... thats why its worth buying anyway - for all these non-engine jobs.

sorry i dont know the answer though!!

Thanks for the link..

When I popped into Mercedes last week the guy took a look at my wiper and pulled it about a bit and then said its knackered.. all of the gearing is broken.. as he could pull the blade back and forth..

Need to take it out.. adjust the park position, and then I think I'll just tack weld the rods in place, so its a fixed distance. Plenty cheaper than buying a new mechanism.

If the blade can be move from one side of the windscreen to the other by hand, with wiper off, then the nylon gear teeth inside the motor gear box are all chewed up and/or the worm drive teeth are damaged, if that is the case then you will need a replacement motor, resetting the park position won’t solve your problem regarding the blade stopping in your line of view.
Check the condition of the teeth in the motor gearbox…http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=49258

Don’t tack weld the rods, unless the tip of the blade is striking one or both sides of windscreen trim that is assuming you have the correct blade fitted, which is 24 inch. The hub mechanism, with the rods, under the turtle shell cover is separate from the main mechanism that drives the blade over and back across the screen. The sole purpose of the hub mechanism is to push the blade in and out of the windscreen corners. http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=47227

I am able to move the blade by hand... The blade doesnt go up into the corners as it should.. I have the wrong blade fitted, its only a 21".. So that it wouldnt jam up on the windscreen trim..

Sounds maybe like the whole thing is broken?

As the blade doesn’t go up into the corners, as it should, confirms that the coged wheel (picture) is slipping on its shaft.
I wouldn’t tack weld the rods as you could still fix the coged wheel with a roll pin at some later date.
The shorter blade is serving its purpose, I would stick with the 21 inch blade, that issue is of less importance as it won’t stop the wipers working.

As you are able to move the blade by hand, indicates that the nylon gear teeth have been striped, that would explain the parking of the blade in the wrong location on windscreen. Remove the 7 bolts on the motor gearbox and I think you will find nylon shavings present, (picture) if that is the case, its replacement motor time.

The rest of the mechanism at the back should be ok, the only thing that can fail on it is the ball joint socket (picture). which can be worn away because of a lack of lubrication or Nut 1 or Nut becoming loose.

MB dealers usually won’t replace the motor on its own without the mechanism however the motor can be got for around £70? elsewhere, others may advise.

All fixed now!

Gave the car to my local Merc specialist.. all working now, and fitted a new MB wiper blade.

The blade doesnt go up in the corners, but I have a perfect park position and a full sweep.. so am very happy.. MB blade was £14.99, and the labour inc. vat was £59 to remove mechanism, repair it, adjust it, refit to the car.. :)

Very happy!
