bit of curb damage to my AMG wheel (standard E350Sport variety).

Can these be repaired other than complete refurb?

Any recommendations for a repair specialist in SE London or Kent

TIA

But if you powder coat a diamond cut wheel , you lose the diamond cut finish :dk:

To keep the diamond cut finish , it needs to go onto a lathe and turned again , then laqcuered. You can only diamond cut something so many times before you lose acceptable thickness on the piece in question.

Speak to BJV , they do hundreds each week and are pretty good , and reasonably priced.

If it's diamond cut , it won't be powder coated.

The face may be powder coated , but the lip may be diamond cut. Whatever , if you powder coat a diamond cut finish , you lose it.

Below is an example , the face is powder coated , the lip is diamond cut , then both are laqcuered.

And here is an all diamond cut wheel ....

See the difference ?

sorry, should have ben more clear.

My wheels are diamond cut with some localised curbing.

Can a focal repair be done without refurbing the whole wheel. I'm not to far from lepsons and might take it on for their opinion

Probably not , likely it'll have to spun on a lathe which will remove a tiny amount from the whole surface of the wheel .

Yes it can I have damage to a diamond cut lip on my Brabus monoblock VI, around the outer edge, The refurb guy we use has inspected it and said it can be re-cut and lacquered without touching the rest of the lip or wheel centre, there was another thread on this where I promised to take before and after pics, will try to fin the before one and post here and the after one when the refurb guy has been hopefully in the next 10 days.

I'd be interested to see this Ian , as my AMG's on the CLK , have a perfect face ( powder coated ) , but milky laqcuer and kerb marks to the rim ( diamond cut ).

So really , just the rim needs cutting again , but when i asked , i was told that the whole wheel has to be done

That's exactly What I'm having done Howard just having the rim re-cut where I kerbed it avoiding some chav in a Subaru. I'm jut trying to find the photo of it now so I can post it so you can compare my damage to yours.

@OP

From my research and my conclusion, they cannot be repaired (properly). You can ask for a repair but it will have a painted finish and the repaired area will stick out like a sore thumb. I have got exactly the same wheels as you, 6 double spoke AMG Type IV wheels and I kerbed it about 2 weeks ago.

In the end I decided against going for a full refurbishment as I strongly believe they would never be able to finish it to match the 3 other wheels. Ringway on here gave me an idea that at least made the damaged area look a bit more presentable. I usedwet and dry paper on the damaged area and it looks much better than it did just after I kerbed it.

Flania did say they could be repaired but I am still waiting for his before and after pictures.

Not had it done yet due to other events overtaking it but they tell me it can be done, no paint involved just re-cut the diamond finish and laquer. Will post before and after pics as agreed when done :thumb:

quick update

Just to let you know the guy did my diamond cut alloy repair and it has come out very well. If I am being picky then I admit it is not perfect but it is 99.9% but that's just me I'm a perfectionist and there are a few what i'd call hair scratches < 0.5cm long where the work as been done. I will photograph it in natural light at the weekend so you can see for yourselves but I must admit at £40+ VAT I think it is a real bargain. :thumb:

Look forward to the pics. Thanks for contributing. Now to find someone who can do it in SE London.
