can anyone recommend some good sidelight bulbs. I'd like a whiter beam as the current bulbs look a bit yellow compared to the xenon dipped beams

im thinking of using some LED 501's like these!

Hi Mick,

I went through exactly the same quest last year. Wasn't keen on the LED type as many are poor quality/unbranded items from abroad and I think most will set off the bulb failure circuit.

As a compromise, I used Philips Silver Vision bulbs, a straight replacement and very good value (something like £7.00 a set from eBay). Not quite as 'white' as the Xenon light unit, but an improvement nonetheless and for £7.00 I was happy :)

Dont forget the LED bulbs will trigger a bulb out light unless you can get hold of those that include a resistor.

My apologies Mick, Blue Vision for the sidelights, but I fitted silvervision to the indicators as well - loses the orange effect from the otherwise clear front end.

H6W sidelights
PY21W for the indicators

BTW - don't expect a massive difference to the standard bulbs - it's quite discreet, they're not going to glow 'bluey/white' in colour like aftermarket HID/LED bulbs - but you will notice a bigger difference at night time - less yellowy looking.

For £7.00 I thought it worthwhile, if it was an expensive mod, perhaps I wouldn't bother :)

If that makes sense :o

It was a seller on eBay IIRC. I'll have a look for you?

cheers, best I can find is £9.80 plus p&p on Ebay

Oops - says item has ended?!?

Maybe drop him a message or wait for the next lot to be listed :o

i wouldnt bother with the philips ones, still too yellow. Try some MTECH ones off eBay.

Pictures on the last post in my gallery (click pic in my sig) or check my Osram thread.

The MTECH ones are the most like xenon/ pure white availiable IMO.

I cant post the links as im on my phone at the mo and cutting/@paste is a chore :)

Managed to do it :) here is a shot of the MTEC W5W wedge bulbs, as you can see not yellow at all!:

The W5W bulbs from a facelift E-Class W211 can be used in other models with the same W5W fitment. I have a set from the dealer but not yet fitted - was about £6 for the pair.

Now theres a thought do you happen to have the part numbers ?

A few people have said they will look into ordering them in the past (Alps for one :) ) yet nothing has happened as of yet.

Im sure I read that they arent W5Ws after all?
