Replacing Audio 20 Cassette with Audio 20 CD

I've got a Audio 20 with a cassette player and a 6 disc CD changer but the display on the head unit is broken so I wanted to replace it with a Audio 20 with built-in CD player but the connectors on the back of my current unit looks a bit different. I don't know if it is just an extension cable that goes back somewhere that I can't see without taking the whole dashboard apart (seems like it was installed incorrectly because I could just pull the player out).
So anyone got a manual / guide on how to connect it properly?

Thanks in advance

The connections should not look a bit different but completely different. Your current head unit connects to the Audio GateWay at the trunk, it also includes the amplifier and the radio tuner.

It would be a lot easier for you to put a new Comand screen (the older model for W211). But I would assume the NTG2.5 retrofit cable from kabeldaviko would work for Audio 20 CD too, you may ask him for more details.
Kabel Daviko

Is it this cable you refer to? That is quite expensive :P Costs more than I paid for the new Audio 20. It may not be as easy I thought it would be =/

I was thinking about this cable, this one is for a car without Sound System audio (810), I assume a car with Audio 20 CC would not have 810.

But there is also a quadlock adapter for an NTG2.5 to be retrofitted after Audio 20 CD, meaning the NTG2.5 harness would not fit as such. You would either need another adapter or a special harness (modified from the NTG2.5).

To be honest I have very little experience regarding cars. What is a NTG2.5? I found this quadlock adapter on eBay. No quite sure which connector is placed on the one end of the adapter. Will I be able to plug that into the wire coming from the car and the other end into the unit? And will it work ? :P

NTG2.5 is the new hard drive based "all in one" device. The harness you found from eBay is like the second cable I was referring from Kabeldaviko. This is intended to be used on a car with an Audio 20 CD head unit that would be replaced with Comand NTG2.5.

None of the cables are exactly what you need to make the Audio 20 CD work in your car. I wonder if you could ask Kabeldaviko prepare you a special harness, the NTG2.5 retrofit harness with a modified Audio 20 CD quadlock connector. You would still have to work quite a lot in the car to remove the AGW and feed the harness from the front to the rear.

Have you looked after either a new (used) Audio 20 CC head unit or a Comand NTG1 head unit?

By looking at Kabeldaviko's prices I guess it won't be a cheap fix. Seems like that easiest thing to do is to find a used Audio 20 with Cassette. Will I be able to just pop out the old one and put a new one in if they are both with a cassette or is there something that I need to be aware of?

These don't have any security code. Should be as simple as swapping the parts if you put a similar device back. Actually I would assume Comand NTG1 would be equally easy (but it is more costly).

Would be nice with a Comand system but as you said it is indeed more costly. Especially since I just wanted to replace my current Audio 20 because of a broken display. But I actually thought that it would be harder to install a Comand unit ? Doesn't it requires extra stuff like a GPS antenna and DVD player in the trunk to play the navigation discs?

You can just put the COMAND head unit in (to replace a Audio-20-Casette in a W211) , and have a nice looking system but with no navigation.

You can then seperately add the Navigation processor and GPS antenna (and wiring and bracket) at a later date.

Oh okay did not that it would work without but it would be even more expensive so seems like I'm sticking to the Audio 20 CC.
Just to clarify in case I get my hands on one:
What is the procedure when replacing the old one? Disconnect the battery in the trunk and then unplug the old unit and put the new right in?

You dont need to disconnect the battery. Just make sure igntion is off.
