Replacing dashboard speakers

Hello i have a C124 and i am looking to change the dashboard speakers. Before i do this i have read that you maybe able to place speakers on the door cards. I did also read that you maybe able to get speaker fittings from a similar and older door card and replace your current storage area with this? Before i go out and spend on speakers or door cards is any of the above true? Can you get speaker fittings from an older car and replace current ones or can you put speakers onto the door cards?

US-spec cars had a door-mounted midbass speaker (Premium Sound System) as standard. It's very rare in the UK - I've obly seen one car with it

Jehnert makes a speaker pod that replaces the bottom storage area. They are expensive

Fabricating a speaker mount in the doors is possible but it's a big job

I'd replace the dash speakers with the best midrange units you can find, put tweeters in the sail panels and have a subwoofer in the back
