Retro fitting D27 & D24 sunroofs in a vito

How much you spend on the Panoramic window then Ian ??

Guess you now need the harness , controller, roof lining again LoL,

At least you know what the pitfalls are after having fitted one already

Nick

I have the lot already just waiting for the delivery thursday of the roof, it will be in the weekend.
Rear is in and working, its been in a while now, as its black on black it bends in fine.
Ps I have made that wire link you need and will post it tomorrow.

Just want to thank ask the admin for removing some bad picture links.

I have a new mirror fitted on the new screen now but not sure I can keep it there with no rear window, its all you can do to fill the space between the rain sensor cover and the cable cover, in a new vito they pull the mirror off the ball socket! Such a massive improvement, I could not do without the front roof now, I love the way the HH4 Thermotronic keeps the cab warm even when the roof is open. Two musts if buying new, HH4 and D27 and D24 but the cost must be massive. Next job is face lift the front end, just lights missing now and will post pictures on how that goes.

Cost of sunroofs supplied new in 2007 shown on the new vehicle invoice that came with my Viano, I imagine a similar vehicle now would cost between 45-50k!

£580 each for front & rear sunroofs (excluding VAT) on my 2007 Vito pricelist. The rear one could only be ordered with electrically-hinged rear windows though, which were another £140. Bizarrely, manual rear windows were £200?!

Yes, as new build its cheap, we have found you cannot retro fit anywhere near the same cost as the new options.
The front roof is over a grand in parts, the over head control panel is also a grand and the roof lining 3-4 hundred.
The rear roof is well over a grand plus the harness, cross brace, drains.
To buy new from MB parts, best part of £4000 for both.
They cost enough used and take Hours of work to do.
I still had to buy lots of new parts, drains harness, trims switches etc.
Inport costs etc.

Mental.

It bugs me that manufacturers charge so much more for spares/new parts - I realise they have to store and distribute them to dealers etc but £4000?

Your van looks great mind you, and although I have only been in taxis that are Vito/Viano based without sunroofs, I agree having them makes such a huge difference.

My other car is a Lexus and they stopped fitting "moonroofs" as standard about ten years ago, and it feels dark in there compared to the Viano...if I ever replace mine it will have to have these roofs, I noted on the MB video from Geneva the new V-Class on display had the panoramic roof. One day eh?

Off Topic Question - on my invoice a few posts back it mention "S&F Ramp Plates". What the hell are those??!

Yes parts new and used are mega for the roof, nothing cheap about it.
No Idea what that is S&F is.
You can do some nice updates to yours, swap the nav for starters, fit the NTG2.5, is far better than what is fitted.
Looks like you have aux heater as well, thats nice, does it work?

Yes the aux heater does work - it's great for remote heating on a cold day using the Eberspacher radio remote control I got from Euromerc, but just as good as a heater booster when the van is running. It reaches operating temperature in about 10 minutes which makes for comfortable shorter trips.

The nav is on my shopping list, it's the coding thing that puts me off. I am miles from the Comandonline guys and my Indy wasn't keen at all to touch anything to do with the Comand. I suppose I should ask MB but I don't know how interested they would be in fitting only, as I expect they will want a kings ransom for a new one.

It will just plug and play, no coding necessary as you have comand fitted.
Its an easy swap.
You will need to add a new antenna, swap the mic for the latest type, and and one wire from the antenna to the nav, just so the duel antenna works as it should, you can buy a y connector that works but the extra wire is the way to go.
New antenna amp needs no power.
Can you take some pictures of the aux heater and start a new post, I am planning on retro fitting it in mine.

Thanks for the info on Comand.

Sounds do-able, I will look into it further but would probably need help!

Have taken some photos and will start a new thread.

Cheers

My front roof is now fitted, job and a half again but its done, just waiting for the new drains to arrive from Germany.

Looking good mate, looking at that hole it brings back memories!! How was the template? Did you use it??

Sort of, finished up making a scribe block and then gaffer tape.
I have made a start on the lining, cut the hole and painted the back with epoxy resin, its solid now, just need the drains and I can get it back in.

I'm attempting to fit drains for a forward sunroof in a w639 and am having trouble working out where they're meant to track down the a frames and out. Any help would be much appreciated

As said down the A post right to the bottom, in the kick panel where the door check strap fits they stuff black bags full of sponge, these have to come out.
