I have owned an 2002 ML320 from new which was ordered without a stereo. I'd now like to fit one but have tried to connect two units using the connectors on the back of the blanking plate that covers the stereo space without success (one was a Blaupunkt and the other a Mercedes 20 unit
Can anyone help please?

Welcome to the forum. A few quick questions to help us work out potential frixes:

What happened in each case? Did they light up but no sound? Sound but no light? Or appeared to be completely dead?

Do you recall having a cable or connector missing when you fitted either?

Why did you request no hifi - could they have omitted speakers too?

The vehicle was ordered without hifi beause I had originally intended to have satnavfitted separatelyas I had imported it and was told that origianal fit comand units were unreliable. However I have only driven it 10000 miles in 3.5 years and a radio will suffice.

There did not appear to be any cables missing. I connected the aerial and two rectangular connectors to the back of the unit . It switces on and it is possible to operate the tuner but I get no sound. To the best of my knowledge the speakers have been wired in. I have been informed that the Ml has a separate amplifier and needs a unit without an amplifier, although I am not sure of the reliability of this information

The information you were given reference the amplifier is not totally correct.

The two connectors you talk about should be the A and B connectors. the A connector is at the bottom and the B above it. The B connector should have at least eight wires in it. These are for the speakers. The exception to this is if your car was fitted with the Bose Amp upgrade which from what you say, is very very unlikely.

If I were you Id check that you actually have speakers behind the grilles. If your car was supplied from new with no stereo then it is entirely possible that they left out the speakers aswell!
