Road blocks to catch smokers

I actually read that wrong about the bus in the link, I thought it said that it had less seats than that, its beside the point anyway!

Not at all if you know fags and lighter next to you

A number of people have related the issue being the selfish chucking of the tabs ends out the window and it blowing back intot he car or losing the cherry off the end and burning themselves.

It matters not a jot where you keep the unlit ones!!!!

Yeah I hear that but that's rare I think and not enough to banned smoking in cars..

May aswell band the use of radios and the use of heaters in cars cause you have to look at them to use them which means taking eyes off the road..or not?

Where I can get a cigarete out without looking

Bet you do. I know I have a quick check if i'm reaching for a drink from the cup holder and I know exactly where that is.

Its just human nature to look at what you are doing at that moment in time! We all do it. It's like looking at your watch for the time and if someone asks you a few seconds later looking again. You know the answer but it doesn't stop you looking.

More common than you might think looking at this thread.

Since there seems to have been a comms breakdown here (or people reading bits of the thread but not all of it i suspect) I can clarify:

1. I am not saying it should be banned

2. Given that people have got done for having a drink of water at the traffic lights with the handbrake on I am amazed it hasn't though

3. If it was then we would need to ask that question - where do you draw the line? Its the reason radio controls have moved to the steering wheel but people will still fiddle, its just nature but given the legislative and health and safety obsession we seem to have at the moment there has to be a stand made somewhere.

4. Use the ashtrays!

I had best take that Humidor out of the glovebox......

Nothing quite like a Cohiba Robusto whilst drfting along the M4......

This is one of those threads where it's just gonna keep going on and on and not solve anything, its just a matter of a opinion i guess, but i say if you wanna smoke in your OWN car then smoke, simple, if you chuck a fag out and it comes back in then so be it, it's the drivers fault end of, if it burns the seat, then fix it, no big deal and unlikely it will happen anyway..

This thread just proves the complete insanity in which we live everyday in good ol' blighty......I thought it was just me, turns out it is them all along!

Roadblocks set up to catch drivers smoking

Police roadblocks are being set up to catch drivers who are breaking the law – by smoking at the wheel of their company vehicle.

Nothing about banning smoking in all cars at all. Chinese whispers anyone?:D

That just highlights that we are on a MERCEDES forum !

On reading the owners handbooks , we learn that Mercedes-Benz cars are equipped with CIGAR lighters , whereas more plebian modes of transport have cigarette lighters .

the banning of smoking in a company car is still just as bad and stupid imo

Anyway i started by saying that being on a phone cant compare to smoking behind the wheel as people were trying to compare them as being the same thing. thats what caught my attention to this thread.. :thumb: slightly off topic i now but s*it happens eh and there is talk of smoking being banned all together in this thread..:)

Why should I have to use a company vehicle that stinks, is covered in fag ash, and is covered in nasty gunk?

Many talk of the rights of the smoker - what about of the non-smoker?

Why the police were involved in this I don't know, but if we have a company vehicle then we have to make it available for inspection to ensure that we are complying.

a mini valet and air freshener will sort that..i'm sure that they will clean the car before its given to you as a company car..

I take it you've never been in a builders or mechanics van then, oil, grease, cement dust, mud, etc, etc. Fag ash, to my mind would be very low on the list of undesirable particles in the cabin

They don't also have cup holders, but glass holders.

I had a brilliant camping trip and it started too pour, sat in the back of the merc, had a cigar and used the rear seat glass holders to hold my very nice glassof merlot.

As you say, every seat in a Mercedes is 1st class, even the back ones, in a dark september night, in a campsite in Killin

yes ban all smoking in company cars! it would mean no more nasty fag buts flicked out the window!

I would expect my company car to be brand new...

However, I occasionally have to use other "specialist" vehicles that belong either to my company or my clients.

I would (and have) refused to use those are not reasonably clean inside, as is my perogative to do so. And, if it was my company, I would rather ban smoking in the company's vehicles regardless of the law rather than be hit with the cleaning bill.

I also see no reason why a builder's or machanic's van should be treated by a skip. I would not employ such persons who treated their vehicle like that - if that's how they treat their vehicle what does that say to their attitude toward the job?

And before you say it - I know both mechanics and builders whose vans are immaculate both inside and out. They treat it as an advert for their business.
