Just taxed my C63 for the year, £505! Shocking considering the state of the roads...

Anyways,

Car was taxed till May by previous owner but DVLA want me to pay for apr and may as well... I bought the car on apr 9th...

Does this sound right or should I avoid paying it? Don't want to receive a fine from them

Since the introduction of new rules 1st October 2014 car tax is no longer transferable so you will need to have your own tax from 1st April

Afraid that is correct. If you were the owner in April and the car wasn't SORNED, the road fund licence is due. Pay it and curse the DVLA for making a months tax out of both you and the previous owner.

Yes unfortunately you have to pay, the issue was on watchdog regarding the whole double payment scam by DVLA

Not been road tax for some time...

Vehicle tax is how it's termed now. Calculated on how polluting one's car is. So, a green tax perhaps...

A tax is a tax, no matter what label it carries.

You were fortunate not to have been caught by an ANPR camera and fined for not having current vehicle tax recorded on the system

Dang! Really grudge paying it especially when roads are this bad. Makes me so angry

Am I likely to get a fine if I don't pay it?

Money would be better allocated to a fuel fund lol

You will definitely get a fine for not paying

I hate paying it too, I understand very little of the VED goes on the roads. What I do is tax it for a year then SORN it about October/November and claim back the months not used.

I'd pay it just to alleviate the anxiety of whether or not a fine is forthcoming.

Why didn't you pay monthly? Smooths out the lump sums due once or twice per year.

Got a c63 and can't afford to tax it... This is going to end well!

Can't afford to pay it and grudge paying 2 months backdated is 2 different things. My case is the the latter

I prefer to scour the Internet for cars the same as mine, check they've got tax and MOT, then get some plates made up and just use them.

Saved thousands over the years.

Have you been driving the car since you bought it on April 9th?

If so, the duty is due and you have to pay for 9 days that you did not own the car which is less than £12.50.

Prefer to Pay things as a one off. Also think it's cheaper if u pay 12 months rather than DD or 6 months

Hardly. Been using my other car a lot more. Cars been parked up for weeks. Having withdrawal symptoms

It's amazing that DVLA can't cope with a daily VED isn't it!

Do away with the VED altogether and put the duty up on fuel. Then those that drive many miles will pay according to their level of pollution.

Yup. Some people can't get their head around the fact that my 5 litre V8 SL produces less emissions that most family hatchbacks (because it does a fraction of their annual mileage).

However bad it sounds, I'm trying to get value for money and make sure I pollute accordingly to the price of road tax. I drive it hard, possibly every day. I know, I'm bad ...
