I've not been home for a few weeks due to work commitments.

Just arrived to find i stupidly let the road tax expire a few weeks ago.

I assume i'm going to get fined. The car has been garaged and hasn't moved in this time.

The question is if i pay online today can i drive the car before i get a new disc to display???

thanks

Alex

I think that the 'tax in post' from taxing online thing only applies if you've ordered your new tax disc before it expires (eg on the last day of the current disc). It then gives you a few days to cover the arrival of the new one in this time.

I'd just nip down the post office and you can have it there in hand :)

just do it at the post office mate.. you have another 2 hrs before they close.. job done

take your v5 or reminder
insurance
mot
some ID.

old tax disc can remain in the car, no need to take it to the counter

enjoy!

Probably, as the vehicle has to be SORNed if it's not taxed - but you may get away with it.

You can drive it, but you'd be guilty of "Failure to Display". There has been a good deal of discussion about this in the media because people who have paid in good time online but haven't received their tax disc until after the expiry of the old one due to postal delays have still been fined. The law it may be, but justice it isn't.

Can you still do that if the current tax disc has expired and the vehicle hasn't been SORNed? If you can then great!

My Saab tax was due to expire in August, so I taxed it early a couple of days before leaving in mid July at one of the few post offices that let you do this. For those in the Harpenden, Luton etc area, this is the big one at Arndale Centre, Luton.
