Dear All
I managed to remove my dist cap today and was surprised to see quite an amount of oil/**** inside, all over the contacts, arm etc.

So, i proceeded with what looked like a time-consuming but relatively simple task of removing the timing cover so as to proceed with replacing the seal - which, yes, you all know is a classic design fault in all w124s

But i buggered the trx screw. I think completely. I tried banging in a larger torx (as advised by many threads) but that seems to have made it worse.

Slashing my wrists or jumping off the 5th floor balcony all seem like amiable options right now. I have attached a photo. Suicide might be availed if someone can tell me that all i need to do is bung a load of silicon somewhere which will stop most of the oil getting into the inside of the distributor cap (as clearly i am never going to get the torx screw out now). I'm looking for an innovative alternative other than how to get the damned torx screw out.

Please help. I 'm really depressed.

Have you thought of drilling into the screw centre and then using a bolt extractor? Who knows perhaps that could work. I'm sure somebody in the know will be on here shortly....

Yeah, much the same idea, but drill pilot hole and screw in a left handed thread self tapper,
and if you can get some heat on it all the better.good luck

is there really the room? You mean remove the fan and the rad. Well, i'm in Lebanon and here things aren't quite so developed as blighty. Easy-outs are not so common and i;m not sure i'd trust someone who claims to know how to use one. I was hoping i could bung the whole thing up with silican, which is why i posted the photo

Don't think that will work, you could try an oil additive that stops oil leaks(if you can get hold of) clean as much off and try. There really is no substitute for a proper job though.
